Classification of various attacks and their defence mechanism in online social networks: a survey

Due to the popularity and user friendliness of the Internet, numbers of users of online social networks (OSNs) and social media have grown significantly. However, globally utilised, social networks are the consequence of the lack of understanding of secrecy and protection on OSN and media has increased. Secrecy and surety of OSNs need to be inquired from various positions. According to recent studies, OSN users expose their private information such as email address, phone number etc. In this paper, we have presented a high-level classification of recent OSN attacks for recognising the problem and analysing the blow of such attacks on World Wide Web. We have also discussed OSN attacks on different social networking web applications by citing certain recent reports such as Kaspersky security network and Sophos security threat report. We also offer some simple-to-implement user practice tips to protect the system and user’s information. In addition to this, we have discussed a comprehensive analysis of numerous defensive approaches on OSN security. Lastly, based on the acknowledged strength and faults of these defensive approaches, we have explained open research issues.     

How do cyberspace friendships transition to favorable workplace outcomes? The self-team joint influence

The rise of social networking sites (SNSs) has revolutionized the way that individuals connect and interact with other. By building on boundary theory and social exchange theory, this study investigates whether cyberspace coworker friendships transition into positive organizational outcomes in the workplace. Using the case of Facebook, a multilevel model is proposed, leading from SNS coworker friendship to job embeddedness and satisfaction through the mediating role of instrumental coworker support. Furthermore, the moderating effect of team-level task interdependence on this life–work transition is scrutinized. This study fills the void of inadequate empirical research on boundary crossing, and enriches literature that predominantly centers on the negatively valanced outcomes of such transitions. It also advances the literature on how team-level task interdependence could moderate the role of cyberspace coworker friendships. Results pave the way for both organizations and employees to embrace fulfilling outcomes through life–work social exchanges.     

Friending the taxman: On the use of social networking services for government eID in Europe

The provision of identities online continues to be a fiercely debated topic in policy circles, with proposals emerging for public sector organizations to leverage pre-existing social networking services for their own identity management purposes. Within the broader context of private sector organizations springing up as identity providers, this article explores — from a socio-legal perspective — the merits and drawbacks of using social networking services for government eID in Europe. It then reviews the present and future European policy environment concerning official use of social networking credentials. We focus specifically on legislative measures currently being proposed in the EU to facilitate the Identification, Authentication and Signature policy, within the scope of the ongoing Electronic Signatures Directive revision process and the launch of the proposed Electronic Trust Services Regulation.
