Motivations and Obstacles for Small Business Entrepreneurship in Russia: Fifteen Years in Transition

A longitudinal survey of small business entrepreneurs was conducted in Russia in two stages: in 1994 and in 2008. This study examined entrepreneurial climate and developments in Russia's small businesses with a focus on motivations and obstacles in starting up and operating businesses. It also aimed at analyzing entrepreneurs’ needs for training, consulting, and other types of assistance in a comparative context. Russia's climate for small and medium enterprises (SME) and entrepreneurship has improved, although it is still a work in progress. The 2008 survey indicated younger age, greater share of female entrepreneurs, and remaining small size of the firms. Though the level of SME entrepreneurial activities in Russia is still lower than in major developed economies, the gap is diminishing. Thise study found no significant differences between 1994 and 2008 in terms of entrepreneurial motivations and obstacles; several shifts and trends in motivations and obstacles were identified in their relative importance in SME dynamics.

我国市政公用事业特许经营障碍及其对策分析

特许经营制度是解决市政公用事业供求不足、资源浪费、价格攀升等诸多矛盾的重要途径之一。目前,我国市政公用事业的特许经营还处在初创阶段,在其实践中存在着许多障碍。本文分析了我国公用事业特许经营中存在的政府监管不到位、定价机制不完善、法律法规缺失等问题,并提出了相应的对策建议。     

供给推动与现代物流业发展——一个简单模型与例证

物流业本质上属于中介行业范畴,通过构建的物流中介运营模型显示,物流企业规模越大,专业化水平越高,规模效应效果越明显,物流信息化水平越高,市场环境越规范,越利于现代物流业发展。通过政府主导的体制性改革,推动现代物流有效供给,以此拉动物流需求,最后达到供求均衡发展,是现代物流业发展的一条可行路径。通过对广东佛山家电、陶瓷业208家生产性企业和68家物流企业的调查及对佛山现代物流产业演进进行实证分析,得出的结论与物流中介运营模型结论基本一致。

Venture tales: Practical storytelling strategies underpinning entrepreneurial narratives

Narratives help entrepreneurs and potential venture supporters to make sense of new ventures and to frame entrepreneurial journeys. Despite current understanding of how narratives shape entrepreneurial outcomes, however, there is limited guidance about how entrepreneurs might craft their own narratives in practice. In this article, we identify six types of entrepreneurial narratives—(1) an identity narrative, (2) an opportunity narrative, (3) a projective narrative, (4) a failure narrative, (5) a pivot narrative, and (6) a resourcefulness narrative—and we detail practical storytelling strategies entrepreneurs can use to shape each of these narrative types. We then propose that entrepreneurs can combine, sequence, and revise these narratives as the entrepreneurial journey unfolds. Knowledge of how to strategically manage the full entrepreneurial narrative repertoire enables entrepreneurs to create meaning and value where there once was none and to capture that value over time as a venture grows.
