从隐喻看英汉词汇中的文化异同

语言、思维和文化三者相互影响、相互制约。隐喻思维与语言以及文化与语言密切相连。由于英汉隐喻思维的异同,作为语言的基本单位之一——词汇,在不同的文化中其使用也存在着异同,词汇的异同反映着英汉文化的异同。通过隐喻,可以从英汉词汇中看出文化的异同。     

Factors influencing cultural event tourism in Nelson Mandela Bay,South Africa

ABSTRACT

Cultural tourism has established a market share of approximately 20% in the tourism sector globally. In addition, it fosters socio-economic benefits for a destination and its residents. This study explores residents’ attitudes towards cultural events in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB), South Africa, to enhance the destination image and induce stakeholder engagement. In this study, 3659 residents of NMB either completed an online questionnaire or a face-to-face interview. The results indicate that the residents of NMB have a positive attitude to cultural events. Notably, the demographic profile of the respondents is representative of the country and may be transferred to a national level to assist the South African tourism industry. The findings clarify insights to the market needs and cultural differences that may be used to tailor unique selling propositions in culturally diverse destinations.     

探析中法经贸合作中的文化差异

随着中法两国于2004年建立的"全面战略伙伴关系"稳步进展,两国关系业已进入历史上的最好时期。但是,由于一些政治和文化分歧,使中法两国之间的经贸关系既相互依存又摩擦不断。文章主要从文化差异上分析中法经贸合作的现状、问题和发展前景。     

“We are all so different that it is just … normal.” Normalization practices in an academic hospital in the Netherlands

Internationally, academic hospitals are giving increasing attention to diversity management. This paper sheds light on the actual praxis of cultural diversity management by professionals in workplace interactions. An ethnographic study in a Dutch academic hospital showed that normalization practices were obscuring diversity issues and obstructing inclusion of cultural minority professionals. The normalization of professionalism-as-neutral and equality-as-sameness informed the unequal distribution of privilege and disadvantage among professionals and left no room to question this distribution. Majority and minority professionals disciplined themselves and each other in (re)producing an ideal worker norm, essentialized difference and sameness, and explained away the structural hierarchy involved. To create space for cultural diversity in healthcare organizations in the Netherlands and beyond, we need to challenge normalization practices.     

文化折扣、市场规模与中国文化产品出口

近年来我国对于文化产品出口给予了高度重视。基于2003年至2011年相关数据,本文以文化折扣和市场规模两个因素为重点,分析了我国核心文化产品出口贸易的决定因素。实证结果显示,无论是基于全部还是基于分类产品贸易额的检验,都证实了市场规模因素的正面影响以及文化折扣因素的负面影响。上述结论的政策含义体现在两个方面：一是应合理确定重点出口市场,加强对重点目标市场的深入分析,通过双边或多边合作减少贸易壁垒,确保中国文化产品的商业存在及公平竞争。二是要充分重视文化折扣效应的不利影响,充分借鉴他国开展文化外交的有效举措,大力推动我国文化传播,提升我国文化的国际影响力和认知度。

The impact of cultural environment on entry-level auditors’ abilities to perform analytical procedures

We focus on the impact of three of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, and individualism, on the results of analytical procedures conducted by entry-level auditors in Mexico and the U.S. Analytical procedures are ideal for this research as they require auditors to use professional judgment and appropriate levels of professional skepticism, abilities related to all three cultural characteristics. We find no other study investigating the impact of culture on the application of auditing procedures similar across the studied cultures.We find cultural characteristics do not affect the participants’ abilities to predict income statement balances, but they may influence the ability to predict changes in balance sheet accounts. We also find culture is associated with differences in risk assessments. Our results indicate that participants rarely differentiate accounts that change according to expectation from those that change contrary to expectation, but rather alter their risk assessments to match the direction of balances that increase or decrease.

Cultural embeddedness in supply networks

Recent studies on structural and relational embeddedness suggest that favorable position and connections in supply networks benefit a firm. While fruitful, this focus misses the motivations that prompt firms to take economic action in the first place. Understanding cultural embeddedness provides insight into why individuals and firms behave as they do and how their behavior can influence network structure. Contrary to the belief that firms act solely for profit and growth, we note that cultural contents such as values, social issues and political ideologies explain firms’ motives and guide their economic activities. We explore the role of cultural embeddedness through a grounded study of Country Natural Beef, a sustainability-oriented agricultural cooperative in the western United States. This supply network demonstrates strongly competing cultural claims among its members as well as a unique institutionalized culture. Cultural interactions at the node and network levels explain the functioning of and changes to the network. Through interviews, analysis of archival information and direct observation of pivotal events over a period of 5 years, we unpack cultural embeddedness and take an incremental step toward a theory of cultural embeddedness in cooperative supply networks.
