Piracy or promotion? The impact of broadband Internet penetration on DVD sales

The Internet provides copyright holders with new sales and promotional channels for their content, while also providing consumers with new opportunities to illegally obtain free copies of this content. Unfortunately, disentangling these two effects is extremely difficult.In this paper we attempt to disentangle these two effects by applying fixed effects and first difference models to a new dataset quantifying changes in broadband Internet penetration and DVD sales at a local level from 2000 to 2003. We then compare our results to those reported in Liebowitz (2008), who uses similar models in a similar time period on a similar product category: music CDs.Unlike Liebowitz, who finds a strong negative impact of broadband penetration on music sales, our results show that increased broadband penetration leads to a significant increase in DVD sales. Using the most conservative results, 9.3% of the $14.1 billion increase in DVD sales during our study period can be attributed to increased broadband penetration. One interpretation of these results is that the difference arises from differences in the ability to pirate these two types of content: while Internet music piracy was easy and rampant from 2000 to 2003, Internet movie piracy was difficult and of generally low quality in this time period. If this interpretation is true it would suggest that, in the absence of piracy, the Internet has an overall strong positive impact on media sales.     

控股股东的产权收益实现方式与利益输送转向——兼论中国的股权分置改革

控股股东与上市公司之间的利益输送可能是双向的:掏空或者援助。文章回顾并发展了西方的文献,对这种利益输送的双向性及其转换进行了模型化表述。文章认为:当控股股东难以通过股权转让来实现其产权收益的时候,除了现金股利分红,掏空几乎是唯一的选择,但当控股股东可以低成本进行股权转让时,控股股东就需要在股权转让收益与掏空收益之间进行抉择,甚至援助上市公司以提高股权转让价格。文章的结论对于中国的股权分置改革具有正向意义:放松对控股股东产权收益实现方式的管制(或者降低其交易费用),将会更好地保护中小投资者利益。     

制造业内部控制对真实盈余管理的影响研究——兼不同产权性质下的比较

以2013年沪深A股1 315家制造业公司为研究对象,利用其2011-2013年的数据,采用迪博内部控制指数量化衡量内部控制质量,检验内部控制对真实盈余管理的影响。研究发现,高质量的内部控制能够降低上市公司的销售性操控、生产成本操控和酌量性费用操控水平,从而降低上市公司的真实盈余管理程度。进一步研究发现,无论是国有控股公司还是非国有控股公司,内部控制都能有效抑制真实盈余管理,且在国有控股公司中其抑制作用更强。     

The accuracy of real estate indices: Repeat sale estimators

Simulation techniques allow us to examine the behavior and accuracy of several repeat sales regression estimators used to construct real estate return indices. We show that the generalized least squares (GLS) method is the maximum likelihood estimator, and we show how estimation accuracy can be significantly improved through a Baysian approach. In addition, we introduce a biased estimation procedure based upon the James and Stein method to address the problems of multicollinearity common to the procedure.     

Preferences for land sales legalization and land values in Ethiopia

This study investigates attitudes towards legalizing land sales and Willingness to Accept (WTA) sales prices and compensation prices for land among smallholder households in the southern highlands of Ethiopia. Household panel data from 2007 and 2012 are used. The large majority of the sample prefers land sales to remain illegal, and the resistance to legalizing land sales increased from 2007 to 2012. While resistance against land sales was strongest among the most land poor in 2007, the relatively more land rich had become more negative towards legalizing land sales in 2012. Younger age and more education were not associated with a more positive attitude towards legalizing land sales. In the same period, perceived median real land values increased sharply but also exhibit substantial local variation with higher land values in areas with better market access. Stated minimum land sales prices increased with farm size in 2012. The substantial increase in perceived land values, high economic growth and outmigration of youth have yet to persuade the rural population in southern Ethiopia to open the land sales market.

针对销售物流对销售预测的要求，尝试采用改进了的适应指数平滑法，建立短期销售预测模型，并对模型进行验证，同时采用客户调查法和销售物流人员综合意见法，进行同样目的的预测，将各种预测方法得出的结果进行融合，得到最终预测结果。

文章主要研究在MT回收模式下,制造企业在不同的产品销售阶段如何制定最优的销售价格和回收政策来实现企业利润最大化的问题。通过对两种不同回收政策的分析和比较,给出了在MT回收模式下制造企业如何制订回收政策的基本思路。     

考虑订单取消问题的变质性物品最优订货和价格策略

讨论了含有预定销售系统的变质性商品在限定时期内的订货和价格策略问题,在考虑允许顾客在预售期间取消订单且现售期间变质率为常数的前提下,建立了数学模型,分析了预售期和现售期的最优销售价格及最优订货批量和最优订货次数,并给出了相应的算例。
