This paper describes the evolution of the mobile Internet in terms of three concepts: the startup problem, standard setting, and mental models. Products in which there is little or no value to the first users due to the existence of strong direct (e.g., telephone) or indirect (complementary products) network effects face a large startup problem. This paper divides the startup problem for the mobile Internet into two stages. Japanese and later other service providers solved the first startup problem with entertainment content that was supported by a micro-payment system (service providers collect and pass on content fees to content providers) and custom phones that displayed this content in a consistent manner. 相似文献

This paper considers the ownership debate with regard to state-owned enterprises (SOEs) performance, that is, whether superior performance of SOEs can be achieved under state ownership. While the traditional belief has been, supported by empirical work, that private ownership is generally associated with superior performance, the experience of Singapore is a clear example to the contrary. We outline global privatization trends and discuss the impact of privatization programs. We then discuss Singapore Telecom as a case where state ownership combined with several contextual and firm-related factors, especially firm strategy, has led to sustained world-class performance. We develop a theoretical framework for this analysis based on the strategic management field. We lastly outline some theoretical and practical implications of the analysis. 相似文献

In the 1984 Cable Communications Policy Act, cable television operators were effectively freed from rate regulation, and subsequently enjoyed monopoly franchise protection with free market pricing. In 1992, however, reregulation of basic cable service rates was established in the Cable Consumer Protection and Competition Act. The argument for reimposing regulation was that a substantial increase in basic cable rates had occurred post–deregulation. Yet the efficacy of rate controls upon an industry which has substantial freedom to adjust product quality is theoretically ambiguous. This study examines simple price, quality, and output evidence to determine how rate deregulation impacted consumers. We consider in this paper an auction-based pricing scheme recently introduced by Lazar and Semret to allocate bandwidth among users. This mechanism, called Progressive Second Price, was studied using tools from noncooperative game theory, for a fixed set of players (i.e., users). We compare here the results obtained in that case with the more realistic situation when players randomly enter or leave the game. We assume that they enter according to a Poisson process, and leave it after an exponentially distributed sojourn time. In this paper the macro-economic interactions between high-tech innovation (telecommunications), growth and trade are analysed at the macroeconomic level. Cointegration and innovation accounting based on vector autoregression techniques have been used to estimate empirically the trade and growth dynamics in the Australian context. Towards a Mobile App Diffusion of Innovations model: A multinational study of mobile wallet adoption
Demand for contactless payments has increased worldwide, but adoption varies by country. We propose a more parsimonious Diffusion of Innovations model (i.e., complexity is dropped and compatible advantage replaces relative advantage and compatibility) to investigate mobile wallet adoption, but with context-relevant extensions of security, privacy and ubiquity. The model is empirically tested for Canada, Germany and the United States. The findings support the proposed model. Furthermore, we find ubiquity, privacy concerns and security risks vary by country, and ubiquity plays a mediating role. This model can be utilized in future mobile app studies and provides country-specific guidance to practitioners. 相似文献
