Interregional Input–Output Modelling in Indonesia: A Constrained Growth Rate Approach with Endogenous Investment

In interregional input–output (IO) models, investment can be endogenized in many different ways, varying from dynamic Leontief-type solutions to computable general equilibrium (CGE) models. However, large versions of these models are difficult to implement because of the absence of the required data. In this paper, a different, less data-demanding treatment of regional investment is presented for an interregional IO forecasting model in which a simultaneous solution is given for regional GDP by industry, on the one hand, and for regional aggregate investment, on the other hand. In this way, investment plays its role as a disaggregate demand factor by industry and region, as well as being an aggregate supply constraint on regional capital stock at the same time. Some empirical results are presented for a 27-region model in Indonesia, which has been used by the government during the preparations for the new national 5-year plan for 1994–1999.     

区域一体化与城市创新：基于长三角扩容的准自然实验

随着我国城市进入都市圈发展的新时代，区域一体化对城市创新产生了广泛而深刻的影响。从创新资源流动整合、知识技术溢出和市场规模扩大等维度深入分析区域一体化对城市创新的潜在作用机制，将长三角扩容作为一项准自然实验，以2003-2018年中国内地283个地级市为样本数据，综合利用合成控制法和PSM-DID模型对两者关系进行实证检验。结果发现：①整体而言，长三角扩容能够显著促进城市创新水平提升。从不同区域看，长三角扩容对原位和新进城市创新水平均有显著促进作用，且对新进城市的影响大于原位城市；②异质性分析结果表明，扩容政策对科创走廊城市创新水平的提升作用强于非科创走廊城市，同时区域通达性改善也能够明显强化扩容对城市创新的政策效应；③扩容政策对城市创新的作用呈现出边际效应递减趋势。研究结论对推进长三角一体化发展、深化区域创新合作、建设长三角创新驱动示范带具有重要指导意义。     

Divergent regional development, factor mobility, and nontraded goods

Using an endogenous growth model with learning-by-doing effects in the production of a traded good, we derive divergent regional-growth paths in a two-region-three-good setting. A nontraded-goods sector using a mobile as well as an immobile factor of production provides the possibility of a steady-state equilibrium with a dispersed distribution of mobile workers. The paper investigates regional specialization, trade, and migration patterns in the steady-state equilibrium as well as in the transition process towards the steady-state. The long-run production and trade patterns of the regions are determined by history-dependent processes.

The evolution and performance of biotechnology regional systems of innovation

The paper maintains that biotechnology regions develop as complexsystems: they start with star scientists in research universities,generating knowledge spillovers, then move progressively towardsregional technology markets. In the process they attract venturecapital (or modify the behaviour of existing venture capitalfirms with the addition of biotechnology portfolios). The routinesof universities are also modified with the addition of intellectualproperty and technology transfer offices intervening as sellersin the newly created knowledge markets. The paper also considerswhether companies located in regional agglomerations grow fasterthan isolated ones, and whether companies spun-off from universitieshave a better performance than start-ups. The study is basedon about 90 Canadian-based publicly quoted biotechnology companies.

Making a technopolis in Hyderabad, India: The role of government IT policy

This paper studies the unusual growth of the information technology (IT) industry in the Indian city of Hyderabad during the last 15 years. It examines the high-technology industry in Hyderabad using registration data from the Software Technology Park (STP) of India and the state's IT policies meant to enhance the growth of regional industry. The paper outlines factors that are required for sustained growth of IT regions and evaluates the Hyderabad IT industry and the state government's IT policy against them.

Spatial mobility and competition for jobs: Some theory and evidence for Western Germany

This paper sheds new light on the role of regional labor market conditions for regional mobility. We study competition for vacant jobs along two dimensions – between employed and unemployed job searchers, and between resident and non-resident job searchers – within a simple matching framework. Evidence from estimating regional matching functions with data on job searchers disaggregated by previous employment status and regional provenance indicates that competition for jobs along both dimensions affects hiring. Tests of the theoretical predictions suggest that labor market conditions do determine regional mobility, but the countervailing effects of competition between employed and unemployed dilute mobility effects.     

品牌价格竞争的非对称效应

1989年,Blattberg和Wisniewski提出并证实了品牌价格竞争的非对称效应的存在,即在同等水平的促销情况下,高端品牌(HighTier)在市场份额上的获益要大于低端(LowTier)品牌,或者说低端品牌促销对高端品牌的影响要小于高端品牌促销对低端品牌的影响。这一理论对品牌选择研究和企业定价实践产生了深远影响。本文介绍了对这一理论的两种经济学和一种行为学解释,并对有关的实证研究进行了总结。
