Motorcycle helmet use in Mar del Plata,Argentina: prevalence and associated factors

Injuries resulting from motorcycle crashes constitute a growing problem in Argentina and other Latin American countries. The problem is aggravated because helmet use is not widespread. This observational study analysed the prevalence of helmet use and related factors in a city in Argentina. The sample consisted of 2542 observations of motorcyclists. The results show an incidence of helmet use of 69.8% for drives and 43.4% for passengers. Helmet use was greater among women. Environmental and temporal conditions were related with the rate of helmet use. The findings indicate a considerable increase in helmet use with respect to prior years, providing evidence in favour of government policies. However, the number of motorcycles in circulation has tripled in the past five years, and therefore, the public health impact of injuries due to motorcycle crashes persists.

导游词是导游同游客交流思想，指导游览，进行讲解，传播知识并与旅游活动密切相关的一种语言，堪称旅游的第二风景。所谓“景点美不美，全靠导游一张嘴”，导游词的研究具有重要的理论和现实意义。本论文中，笔者选择长江三峡英文导游词作为语料，从文体学视角进行宏观和微观分析，包括语篇语境、语篇整体结构以及语音、字位、词汇、句法和衔接机制的分析。通过该分析加深对文体学的理解应用，同时对英文导游词质量的提高起到一定的指导作用。

A data envelopment analysis game theory approach for constructing composite indicator: An application to find out development degree of cities in West Azarbaijan province of Iran

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) model has been widely applied for constructing composite indicator and finding development degree of areas. With the increasing number of indicators, the distinguish power of DEA model is decreased. In this paper, in order to increase distinguish power in DEA model and find out the fair weights in cross-efficiency DEA context, the game theory approach is applied. The DEA-Game theory approach is used to rank cities in West Azarbaijan province of Iran. First, 68 suitable indicators are determined and then, the indicators are classified in 10 sectors. Finally, the actual data for year 2013 is gathered and DEA-Game theory model is applied. To verify and validate the DEA-Game theory approach, simple additive weighting (SAW) and TOPSIS methods are used and the results are compared. The Spearman correlation between DEA-Game, SAW and TOPSIS models shows that the DEA-Game theory model is suitable for constructing the composite indicators.     

‘A deeply troubled organization’: Organizational satire in the BBC’s W1A comedy series

This paper analyses the ways in which a media organization implicated in a series of reputational scandals represents its own management in a comedy series. The organization in question is the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) and the comedy series is W1A, a mockumentary commissioned and screened by the BBC in 2014–17. Firstly, I discuss the ways in which W1A as a ‘text’ uses satirical devices to ridicule its own management as well as management fads and fashions. Secondly, I analyse W1A as the ‘intertext’, and consider the satirical representations of management in W1A against the backdrop of the BBC’s reputational scandals. I put forward an interpretation that the intertextual references in the comedy series break down the distance between ‘us’ and ‘the troubled organization’. I also argue that intertextual reading of the series (e.g. the analysis of allusions, cameo appearances, and parallels with the real BBC) throws an entirely different light on organizational wrongdoing, opening new possibilities for organizational reintegration and the repair of broken trust. Not only does the reading of W1A change when the audience considers what is happening in the real BBC, but also our interpretation of what is happening in the BBC may change when we watch W1A.     

Intergenerational transmissions and sharing of musical taste practices

ABSTRACT

This study explores the lived dimensions of musical taste emerging from interactions over the life-course within the nuclear family. We address this subject using intergenerational transmission as a conceptual frame of reference simultaneously highlighting the dynamic and situated nature of musical taste, thus promoting a pragmatic approach. Our aim is to identify the moments, the contents, the goals and the processes linked to intergenerational transmissions. Interpreting the data from 18 parent-young adult dyads reveals: a parental mark imprinted mainly through impregnation; age and generation structuring musical taste (more at the level of listening devices); a low level of parental malleability; heterogeneous intergenerational interactions within the nuclear family, and the transmission of ‘old devices’. Finally, in line with practice theory, we show that the processes of intergenerational transmission with different agents involved can only happen with the support of objects, ‘doings’ performed with objects, and meanings associated with objects.
