Why do firms go abroad when technology makes it possible to do business at a distance? We argue that the cost of distance differentially affects investment motivations across industries. We find support for this hypothesis in a study of U.S. inward and outward FDI. Knowledge seeking and efficiency seeking are the two most important explanations for international activity in information‐intensive industries, reinforcing the value of intangible resources in this sphere. In less information‐intensive industries, market seeking and the search for low‐cost export platforms are the dominant motivations for FDI. An important implication for the current debate on offshoring is that inward FDI flows into the United States occur in high‐ rather than low‐paying industries, and are of the knowledge‐seeking variety, while outward flows are driven by the search for efficiency and markets. Marketing researchers have long used brand switching analyses and Markov transition matrices to gain insights into managerial problems. Almost without exception, this work makes (inappropriate) inferences about individual consumers by analyzing household-level data. This paper presents a procedure based on the distribution of run lengths in household level panel data that allows more insights into the choice behavior of the individuals in the household. We test these procedures in a large simulation study by attempting to recover the underlying (known) structure of the process generating a string of panel data. Finally, we use the procedure to classify the purchase behavior, with respect to powdered soft drinks, of a set of households in a panel. 商户组内多样化和差异化是零售平台常见的特征。本文基于多样化与差异化特征的分析,建立零售平台的双边市场模型,讨论多样化与差异化特征和零售平台的运营策略之间的关系。分析发现:平台向商户收取高价主要受差异化影响,对顾客的补贴主要受多样化影响。平台向差异化商户收取源于竞争的价格加成,并限制差异化的商户数量。差异化度越低,价格加成越高,商户数量越少。商户间的差异化度、平台的差异化竞争策略,以及顾客对多样化商品需求的互补性,构成影响平台多样化与差异化均衡策略的三个因素。 相似文献

ABSTRACT In this study of volunteer tourism, the values affecting participants' perceptions of and attitudes toward an alternative spring break program are compared to the values affecting their perceptions of and attitudes toward their previous and ideal spring breaks. Results show that the values of fun and rewarding are associated with different preferences that are affected by participants'levels of the individual difference factors Volunteer Orientation (Mowen &; Sujan, 2005) and Diversity Seeking (Brumbaugh &; Grier, 2009). Results suggest that these individual difference factors are fruitful variables for segmentation in the volunteer tourism industry. Implications for marketing programs are discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn order to determine the specific motivations of U.S. craft beer drinkers to visit a microbrewery taproom, the current study utilized a two-step data collection process along with a two-step cluster analysis. The current study shows that U.S. craft beer drinkers can be broken into two segments in terms of involvement and variety seeking: high involvement-variety seeking and low involvement-variety seeking. Furthermore, these two segments differ significantly regarding their motivations to visit a microbrewery taproom and their willingness to pay for craft beer at a microbrewery taproom compared to other locations. The factors that influence the scope and range of visitors’ culinary choices were the focus of this study. Responses to a survey composed of 968 departing visitors from Hong Kong who reside in one of 18 countries revealed that culinary experimentation is influenced by four factors. They are in order of importance: national culture; length of stay; age; and repeat visitation. Specifically, respondents from low uncertainty avoidance countries patronized a greater number and diversity of culinary offers when compared to respondents from high uncertainty avoidance countries. In addition, repeat visitors and length of stay were positively correlated with both the number and range of culinary explorations, while first-time visitors and age were negatively correlated. The implications for managers is that visitors of different nationalities travel to destinations with different thresholds of tastes and uncertainty avoidance thresholds, and differences should be anticipated in terms of dining preferences and ranges of culinary experiences. 相似文献
