Brand Personality of Global Quick-Service Restaurants in Emerging and Developed Markets: A Comparative Study in Brazil and the U.S.

This study aimed to determine the dimensions of the personality of global quick-service restaurant brands perceived by young consumers in the U.S. and Brazil, and whether these dimensions showed similar configurations in both countries. A survey was carried out with two QSR brands (McDonald's and Subway). Data analysis utilized exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The study identified five personality dimensions for each of the brands studied in each country. Results support the proposition that global brands can carry a common meaning across nations, but also that certain local nuances of brand personalities can differ.

Some applications of the fast Fourier transform algorithm in insurance mathematics This paper is dedicated to Professor W. S. Jewell on the occasion of his 60th birthday

Transform methods, together with the fast Fourier transform algorithm, can be used to compute various quantities of interest in risk theory and insurance mathematics. These include the total claim size distribution at a fixed time, the mean and variance of the claim size process as a function of time in the Sparre-Andersen model, and the probability of ruin. The associated discretization error can be reduced by applying Richardson's deferred approach to the limit. A theorem is given that puts the use of this technique on a mathematical basis in the context of compound distributions.     

Eating fast food: attitudes of high‐school students

Alarmingly consistent recent research shows that industrially produced foods such as fast food contain compounds that add to obesity and high cholesterol among young people. Less physical activity and a higher propensity to eat ready‐made food (in Sweden and internationally) have aggravated the health situation for the young generation. They also have become ‘addicted’ to sugar by the consumption of lemonade and other sweet drinks that are often served in conjunction with fast food. Food consumption patterns are highly cultural, and, once formed in early years, they become difficult to change. The findings of this study, which was based on a small sample of written accounts and transcribed interviews, indicate that high‐school students in Sweden are well aware of the good and bad attributes of fast food, such as: speed, convenience, fat and sugar. Clear differences in attitude were found between male and female students: female students view fast food in a broad food chain context, whereas male students concentrate on fast eating and satiety.

2011年初以来的房地产调控,通过限贷、限购,迫使开发企业主动降价以缓解现金压力,同时通过保障房和体制建设实现房地产长期稳定发展。调控是利益重新分配的反复博弈过程。从博弈论视角看,中央政府、地方政府、开发企业及购房个体具有不同的行为集合与支付函数。本文认为,中央政府的房地产调控存在常态化趋势,而随着博弈的深入,各开发企业之间的博弈将经历不同的阶段,体现为不同的博弈型态,最终是否走快速周转策略、走刚需路线,将成为开发企业生存与发展的关键。     

H&M – documenting the story of one of the world's largest fashion retailers

The interest of fashion companies in documenting their history has been almost non-existent in Sweden until recently. For the Centre for Business History in Stockholm, the commission to secure the history of Sweden's largest fashion company and one of the world's largest fashion retailers, H&M, therefore offers new challenges. This study analyses the methods being used in this project. Apart from collecting, saving and digitising all existing documents from the company's 60 year-history, the documentation will be based on a considerable number of interviews with past and current employees. These oral history interviews will deal with a number of questions important to scholars doing contemporary business history.
