Trade and access to finance of SMEs: is there a nexus?

Limited resources and barriers to entry are critically higher for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) than for large companies. One of the reasons explaining why the resources of SMEs are scarce is their limited access to financial services. This in turn reduces the likelihood of exporting. For this reason, using the census of SMEs done by the Central Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Banking Institute, we try to examine the impact of access to finance on their export performance. We measure the latter by the extensive margin that means the probability of becoming an exporter and the probability of serving several markets. We found a significant and positive impact of dealing with banks and having banking facilities on the probability of exporting and that of exporting to more than one destination. Thus, wider and more efficient financial services are likely to increase the number of exporters and boost exports’ diversification.

林业生态建设的社会经济驱动力评价:来自四川和湖北的实证

中国长期以来从事林业生态建设工程,如天然林保护工程和退耕还林工程。然而,中国的环境问题如生物多样性丧失、水土流失、沙漠化进一步恶化。该研究目的旨在从林农户视角调查林业生态建设的社会经济驱动力,基于对171林农户的调研,采用多变量回归模型,对其愿意接受补贴,从事生态环境生产进行分析。结果表明,94%的林农户愿意接受补贴,从事生态环境生产。但是,补贴高达每年每公顷6033元。计量结果进一步揭示,受教育程度越高、距离城市越远、农业收入较高,其索要的生态补贴就越高。与此相反,部分在自己地上劳作的农户和农地面积较大的农户,其索要的生态补贴就较低。     

Repetition and attitudinal discrepancy effects on the affective response to television advertising

Significant, favorable attitudinal response toward both the brand and ad were observed at the first exposure in a laboratory experiment on the effects of repeated exposure to television advertisements. At higher levels of repetition, lower, although still positive, ratings were obtained. Response was significantly mediated by prior brand attitude. Mean differences in attitude toward the brand and ad were only partially accounted for by changes in brand perception.

Industrial market segmentation by the structure of the purchasing process

This article presents a methodology for segmenting industrial markets on the basis of functional involvement in phases of the purchasing decision process. A decision matrix is developed as a structured measurement instrument to collect information about the composition of decision making units within target firms. The implications of this segmentation approach for industrial marketing strategy formulation are discussed.
