本文利用“芝加哥”学派利益集团理论的基本假设,对我国电力产业内部人势力的形成、强化及其行为对市场交易的扭曲进行了详尽的分析,从而为当前电力产业规制困境的发生提出了一个基于制度偏好和企业行为的解释。结果表明,在缺乏有效规制的背景下.对自然垄断产业实施等同于一般产业的“放权让利”武改革,为利益集团的成长提供了制度条件和资金支持。由于管制权力分散在诸多的“条块”之间。“厂网分开”后也没有建立权威性的专业机构.不同利益取向的参与者之间的博弈使电力产业的规制放松陷入困境。  相似文献

Stringent pricing regulations have long been in effect in the Taiwan automobile insurance market. In April 2009, a pricing deregulation was adopted, enabling insurers to establish their own auto insurance premium rates. This study examines the effects of deregulation in terms of three hypotheses that we propose pertaining to market shares, loading factors, and last policy month claims. The quantitative analysis results show that pricing deregulation prompts insurers to lower their rates. The effects of deregulation for insurers are determined by not only the decision to deduct premiums and the deduction percentages, but also by policy type.  相似文献

We develop a model of sluggish firm entry to explain short‐run labor responses to technology shocks. We show that the labor response to technology and its persistence depend on the degree of returns to labor and the rate of firm entry. Existing empirical results support our theory based on short‐run labor responses across U.S. industries. We derive closed‐form transition paths that show the result occurs because labor adjusts instantaneously while firms are sluggish, and closed‐form eigenvalues show that stricter entry regulation results in slower convergence to steady state. Finally, we show that our theoretical results hold in a quantitative model with capital accumulation and interest rate dynamics.  相似文献

The banking industries of New Zealand and South Africa were among the most tightly regulated in the western world in the early 1980s. Restrictions on foreign banks were particularly acute, especially in South Africa. From a position of considerable isolation, first New Zealand then South Africa implemented programmes of financial liberalisation. We show that the outcome of liberalisation was different in these two countries. South African banks were able to establish a strong presence in external markets, but the New Zealand banking system was mopped up by its Australian neighbour. These divergent outcomes reflect the origins, geographical position, and unequal capabilities of the New Zealand and South African banking industries.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Nigerian banks in funding the short-term and long-term financing requirements of Nigerian quoted manufacturing enterprises in an environment of economic reforms. It has been argued that the deregulation of the financial system induces financial fragility, credit rationing and bank disinterme-diation, thus limiting the effectiveness of the monetary transmission mechanism. We analyzed relevant data from selected authoritative official publications and found that the liberalization of the Nigerian economy in 1986 under the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) resulted in deteriorating corporate liquidity, declining bank credit to the manufacturing sector, outrageous increases in interest rates, with the consequential decline in the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the GDP. As economic reforms commence, it is necessary for managers of banks and quoted manufacturing enterprises to maintain a well diversified portfolio of liquid assets. That way, spontaneous financial gaps can be better managed. Top management must make important borrowing decisions before relatively predictable events occur. As banks continue to emphasize high asset quality in their loan portfolio, manufacturing enterprises are expected to manage strategically the resulting credit crunch by expanding their corporate finance matrix in a way that matches their operating cycles. Monetary policy should be redirected to moderate interest rates, as well as improve credit supply in order to make the banking sector more relevant as competitive pressures intensify in the Nigerian financial services industry.  相似文献

This paper investigated the growth and policy implications of Global System for Mobile Communication in Nigeria. Stochastic economic modeling was used to analyze Nigeria's time series data. The models were adjudged reliable before they were used. The components of the model were defined and a prior expectation of the relationship among the variables explained for the purpose of giving the reviewers and users a deep insight into the phenomenon under study. The secondary data used for the study were processed using the E-View for windows electronic packages. The outcome of the empirical and stochastic investigations shows that Global System for Mobile Communication has a positive relationship with output growth in Nigeria. The impact is of a higher magnitude. The usage of Global System for Mobile Telecommunication led to 17 percent rise in the output growth. The findings suggest the need for the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and the federal government of Nigeria to expand tele-density and directly make telephone communications cheap and accessible. To achieve this goal, more licenses should be given to GSM operators in order to allow for healthy competition among them. This will lead to improved quality of services, quality of product and consequently sustain the growth and development of the country.  相似文献

The financial sector has acquired great prominence in most developed economies. Some authors argue that the growth of finance is at the root of the financial and economic difficulties of the past decade. This article aims to analyze this claim by looking at financialization in the European periphery, focusing on the Portuguese case. The emergence of this phenomenon is contextualized from a historical, economic and international perspective. Based on the analysis of several indicators, the article concludes that the Portuguese economy exhibits symptoms of financialization that are typically found in Southern European countries and that these differ significantly from the patterns characterizing financialization processes in more advanced economies. The article discusses how the increasing importance of financial actors and motives in the Portuguese economy played a decisive role in the emergence of the crisis.  相似文献

The Financial Modernization Act of 1999 dramatically increased insurers' and investment banks' authority to provide an array of financial services and allowed commercial banks to offer investment banking and insurance services. In this paper we examine the market response to this legislation. We find a strong positive response among insurance companies and investment banks, and no significant response among commercial banks. Larger institutions in all three financial sectors earn higher abnormal returns. Additionally, better performing banks earn higher abnormal returns. Our results suggest that allowing financial convergence can add value through synergies and that large players are needed to exploit the scope economies.  相似文献
