Can China Help Lower World Inflation?: A Panel Study

In this paper, the effect of China's imports on importing countries' inflation is examined. Using data from 1994 to 2003, it is argued that China's export surge is an important contributor to lowering inflation in importing countries. Using fixed and random effect models, we identify a statistically significant negative correlation between the share of a country's imports from China and its rate of inflation.     

The ECFA and its expected effect on cross-strait trade and investment: a Taiwanese perspective

To come to terms with the realization of ASEAN+1, Taiwan had concluded with mainland China a special free trade agreement (FTA), the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) in June 2010. This framework agreement provides an early harvest agreement of near-term tariff elimination, including detailed product schedules for goods and services from each side, with the final shape of fuller trade liberalization in goods and services taking years to negotiate and realize. The conclusion of the ECFA has been considered as a major breakthrough in cross-strait talks and economic relationships, even though it is by no means free from controversies inside Taiwan. The authors are therefore motivated by hot debates in Taiwan to reflect on the expected trade effect of the ECFA by taking into account the factor of cross-strait global production networks. In particular, we examine with a proposed model and statistical robustness, the trend of Taiwan-based firms' localization in mainland China, driven in part by constant movements in global production networks, which generates complicated and dynamic relationships between Taiwan's investment-induced trade and structural shift in Taiwan's exports to mainland China. Based on our empirical findings, we reflect on the conventional views on the trade effect of the free trade agreement. The results of our analyses tend to support a cautious view about the trade effect of the ECFA. Without denying the significance of the ECFA and deepening cross-strait economic relationships, we argue that the impact of the ECFA should be interpreted in a wider context than just the trade perspective, as the conventional wisdom and the existing evaluations suggested.

市场转型过程中,大学生的就业体现出就业模式市场化,分配主体多元化,就业形势严峻化。以往研究较多关注社会资本对求职的具体作用,而忽略社会资本运作的深层问题探讨。通过个案调查认为,社会关系网络是求职的重要机制,强关系、弱关系在求职中都可能提供信息和影响,市场因素的介入引起＂差序格局＂变迁,物质性交易是弱关系提供影响的维系力,强关系和弱关系将在完善的制度环境中共同充当信息桥的角色。     

Roy Harrod and traditional theory

In 1926 and 1936 Sraff and Keynes attacked the methodological core of traditional economic theory by showing that the premises of partial equilibrium analysis were mutually inconsistent.

this paper aims to show that Harrod neglected Sraffa and Keynes's logical arguments, and only admitted that the tacit assumptions under discussion restricted the domain of validityof the theory to special cases: perfect competition and statics. He then proceeded to generalize the theory to imperfect competition and dynamics by applying the principles (but not the instruments) of traditional analysis. The definition of these domains thus aimede at rescuing as mush as possible from the orthodox approach.     

中国与印度纺织品服装产业内贸易现状分析

中国和印度作为世界上最大的两个纺织品服装生产贸易大国,两国间的纺织品服装贸易分析逐渐引起了人们的关注。文章以2002—2011年两国纺织品服装贸易数据为例,用出口相似性指数、产业内贸易指数分析了两国纺织品服装产业内贸易的发展状况,并提出了两国在纺织品服装行业进一步发展的政策建议。     

Land Transport for Export: The Effects of Cost, Time, and Uncertainty in Sub-Saharan Africa

In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), inland export transport costs and time delays are much higher for landlocked countries, vary substantially between different geographic corridors, and exhibit substantial uncertainty. Unit costs and costs of time for land transport of exports are high for many agricultural products relative to metals and other high-value products. We illustrate systemic uncertainty in land and maritime transport for exporting by use of simulation. Relationships among uncertainty, infrastructure quality, and other features of logistics systems are highly non-linear, and can be potentially used to identify priorities for trade facilitation.     

促进我国区域贸易的探讨

区域贸易是指不同区域之间进行商品交换的活动。历史证明:存在区域贸易的区域比那些自给自足的封闭型地区更能够促进国民经济的发展。目前,我国各省区之间的区域贸易仍然比较弱,地方保护主义仍旧盛行。各地区没有充分利用各自的比较优势、以专业化生产来提高各自的贸易利益。本文通过对我国地区贸易冲突及生成机制的研究,找出出现这种现象的根本原因。同时,借鉴美国促进国内区域贸易的措施,给我国合理的区域贸易建言献策。     

Stock Returns,Productivity, and Corruption in Eight European Fast-Emerging Markets

This article addresses the impact of productivity, corruption, and trade openness on the stock returns of 265 industrial companies listed in eight Eastern European fast-emerging markets, over the 2004-2013 period. Through a three-factor model that includes both measures at firm level and macro-level control variables, our findings suggest that country corruption index is negatively correlated with the total annual return of the stocks of the listed industrial companies of our sample. Moreover, the most productive firms are featured by higher stock returns, while leverage seems not to be a key predictor of stock returns. In addition, the article uncovers innovative evidence about trade openness that is negatively correlated with stock returns due to its connection with the recent financial crisis. That is, firms operating in markets that are more open to trade show a higher degree of interconnection with other economies and are more likely to undergo the effects of negative fluctuations from foreign markets during the economic crisis. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
