Competing in network markets: Can the winner take all?

Products as varied as software, credit cards, and even coffee makers are influenced by network effects whereby the product's value is contingent upon the number of people using it. In turn, markets for these products offer lucrative returns to managers who can leverage the dynamics in their favor. This article describes recent research focusing on the factors that influence success and failure in network markets. We offer recommendations and initiatives that increase the likelihood of success in network markets for entrepreneurs and incumbents alike.

随着创新过程的演进,企业创新网络环境不断发生变化,创新任务由产品创新、工艺创新和市场创新依次转换。不同阶段企业创新网络环境在结构、关系和知识方面的特征,给产品创新、工艺创新和市场创新带来不确定性,从而产生了市场风险、关系风险和锁定风险。在对企业创新网络不同阶段风险产生机理进行研究的基础上,从关系治理角度提出关系契约、关系交易和关系调节三大风险治理机制。

企业传统的封闭式创新模式在现代工业发展中起到了巨大的推动作用,但随着信息化和全球化的发展,封闭式创新逐渐被开放式创新所取代。长期以来,技术创新的瓶颈制约了我国乡镇企业的发展,开放式创新模式有助于企业走出创新困境,对企业增强创新能力具有一定的启示意义。     

The Effect of Market Transparency: Volatility and Liquidity in the Korean Stock Market

Faced with unprecedented competition, stock markets should have fairness and transparency. The effects of market transparency for the stock market volatility and liquidity will be investigated using the case of the Korean stock market. The evidence from this study indicates that increasing the market transparency makes the price discovery process more efficient than before from the viewpoint of stock market volatility, and increases the stock market liquidity compared with before.

Oligopoly, open shop unions and trade liberalisation

In an international duopoly model, we investigate how trade liberalisation impacts on collective bargaining outcomes when workers are represented by open shop unions. We find that, with intermediate levels of union density, trade liberalisation may lead to higher negotiated wages even if no trade occurs in equilibrium. In addition, we show that union wages may be higher with free trade than in autarky.

Intra-organizational networking for innovation-based corporate entrepreneurship

This study takes a network theoretical perspective in its examination of innovation-based corporate entrepreneurship (ICE), focusing on how project-specific ties can form for non-routine phenomena. A comparative case analysis of 246 interviews in twelve industry-leading global corporations identifies constructs associated with individual network capacity at the individual level, organizational network capacity at the organization level, and program network capacity at the ICE program level. In addition, we recognize the managerial facilitating roles of cultivator and broker. We develop propositions aimed at providing insights about the relationships among these constructs, and identify implications for managerial and ICE program responsibilities.
