Acceleration effect of intangibles in the recovery of corporate performance after-crisis

This study explores the recovery in the Market Value Added (MVA) of European companies after the recent global economic crisis in 2008–2009. It introduces empirical evidence that intangible-intensive strategy in human and relational capital reinforces speed of the after-crisis correction for companies. Based on a panel dataset of more than 1600 listed corporations this research aims to discover drivers of Market Value Added trends in 2011–2013. The established results contribute to the understanding of the advantages that companies can exploit for the recovery after systematic shocks of markets. Our study demonstrates that intangible-intensive strategy not always enabled faster recovery speed. Meanwhile, it provided year-to-year acceleration of MVA growth after crisis.     

Predicting information seeking regarding hurricane evacuation in the destination

The study examined the roles of tourists' risk beliefs, connectedness, hurricane knowledge, and their past experiences with hurricane impacts in relation to their information seeking behavior regarding hurricane evacuation while in the destination. Surveys were collected from tourists who were visiting Florida in September 2011, during the Atlantic hurricane season. Findings from this study reveal and confirm the existence of the critical relationship among tourist information seeking, past experience with hurricanes, individual risk beliefs, and level of knowledge. It is recommended that destination managers make investments in hurricane communication messages, which target a wide array of tourists. The effectiveness of hurricane evacuation information is linked to the receptiveness of the content of the message by differing groups.     

The Greek economic crisis: causes and alternative policies

The Greek economic crisis is primarily structural and the result of an international economic impasse that developed in 2007, with devastating implications for the struggling peripheral economies of Europe. This article suggests that falling profitability led to the stagnation of profits, which in turn discouraged new investment, decreased production and increased unemployment. The resulting recessionary economic environment, in conjunction with the mounting public debt and the austerity policies imposed on the Greek economy by the so-called ‘troika’ of creditors in 2010, has decimated the Greek economy even further, causing one of the worst economic crises since the Second World War. The article also provides some broad guidelines for an alternative economic policy.     

The economic consequences of the TARP: The effectiveness of bank recapitalization policies in the U.S.

This study empirically analyzes the impact of the United States’ bank recapitalization program, the centerpiece of the United States’ $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), on bank portfolios. Through superior empirical analysis and correct model specification, our findings overturn much of the existing literature on the effectiveness of capital injections into the banking sector in Japan and the United States. We show that the TARP program did not achieve the stated policy objective of stimulating bank lending. On the contrary, we find evidence that recipient banks grew assets significantly slower, particularly heavily risk-weighted assets such as loans. These findings are robust to various empirical specifications, including two-stage least squares estimation using instrumental variables, difference-in-difference techniques and generalized method of moments. These techniques control for pre-existing trends in loan growth while addressing potential endogeneity bias.     

后金融危机时代金融消费者保护的若干问题——以美国2010年的新法案为视角

本文以2010年7月美国《多德—弗兰克华尔街改革与消费者保护法》为探索视角,简要回顾了美国金融消费者保护的历史和教训,指出消费者保护的思想不仅应该明确体现在金融监管目标中,还需设置达至目标的适当监管机构,同时提出金融消费者保护的立法力度与金融创新速度相匹配的问题。就中国学界对新法案高涨的借鉴热情,文章认为:国外先进立法经验的本土植入需考量现实条件,我国目前亟须完成的工作是提升金融消费者概念的认同程度并设置适宜的金融消费者保护性机构。     

收入分配、金融发展与宏观风险：一个文献综述

从收入分配角度解释金融危机是当前国际上正在热烈讨论的重要议题。本文旨在对这一研究领域的发展历程和最新进展做一个简单的综述。文章沿着收入分配研究的两条发展脉络——基于要素的收入分配理论和基于人际的收入分配理论——展开,并且分别考察了金融发展在两条路径的逻辑链条中起到的作用。最后,在回顾文献的基础上．提示出我国经济中潜在的宏观风险,得到对中国有借鉴意义的结论和启示。     

保险业在金融危机中的角色：资产证券化视角

本轮金融危机与次贷产品链条及其机理缺陷直接相关。本文对资产证券化中的两种保险机制在金融危机中扮演的角色做了探讨。研究发现：按揭保险业发挥了逆周期的稳定器功能,减缓了系统性风险对住房金融体系冲击。债券保险业较深介入次贷债券及其衍生品的供需链条之中,是导致本轮金融危机中系统性风险爆发的一环。在对二者不同的风险特征做了比较分析之后,结合中国实际,提出完善中国保险业业务结构的若干建议。     

危机与重塑：1997～2010金融体系国际竞争力

在经济规模增长和经济实力增强的同时,中国开始寻求在国际金融体系中更大的话语权。本文利用国际管理发展学院（IMD）公布的1997年至2010年国际竞争力数据,对全球主要经济体十余年来金融体系国际竞争力的动态变化,特别是2008年金融危机带来的竞争力衰退展开分析。研究表明,中国金融体系国际竞争力处于全球中等水平,在2006～2007年达到最好状态,随后受金融危机影响出现衰退,但情况好于发达国家,近10余年来金融体系硬实力较软实力有更大的提升。中国金融体系未来发展仍需在竞争软实力上着力,以金融创新推动竞争力提升     

Lebanon: From cataclysm to opportunity—Crisis management lessons for MNCs in the tourism sector of the Middle East

Lebanon is a complex country of extraordinary promise; often thrust into crisis, including recent military assaults, terrorist attacks and bombings. The authors share findings from a longitudinal field-study of the evolving political and business climate of Lebanon, emphasizing a particular MNC that is thriving amidst social, ideological and political conflicts. A synthesis of primary and secondary data revealed the InterContinental Phoenicia hotel as a model institution in the face of extreme crisis. Key managerial insights that can be helpful to investors, MNCs and managers in the Middle East and other places subjected to similarly extreme conditions are shared.     

后金融危机的货币供给过剩及其效应

本文针对我国货币政策的操作特征,使用阈值协整方法扩展现有的货币需求模型,度量后金融危机时期的货币供给过剩及其对通胀与经济增长的非线性调节效应,并进而设定广义脉冲响应函数揭示货币供给过剩对通胀与经济增长的冲击效应。主要结论为:2009年第三季度以后,我国货币供给过剩且过剩幅度快速增加,其中名义M1过剩12.56%,名义M2过剩11.31%。2009Q3—2010Q3我国处于货币供给过剩机制下,在该机制下,央行谨慎地实施从紧货币政策,从紧货币政策对通胀和经济增长的调节效应相对较强。货币供给过剩对通胀和经济增长的冲击在前2年为正值,在随后近3年为负值。这说明我国现阶段适度宽松货币政策的退出必须谨慎,退出速度不宜过快。
