Many companies use a performance measurement system (PMS) to evaluate their suppliers' environmental performance (SEP). To do this a company can establish its own set of measures or adopt indicators borrowed from specific standards and guidelines such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). However, the results of a literature review indicate that the weights of the different environmental performance indicators within an overall SEP rating are unclear. The aim of this paper is to understand what the environmental policies adopted by European manufacturing companies to evaluate their suppliers really are. In order to reach this objective, a quantitative model based on multiple linear regression has been developed. The model correlates different environmental aspects taken from the GRI set of indicators with the overall SEP rating. Interestingly, results show that performances on aspects such as transport and ISO 14001 certification do not count towards the final ranking, whereas compliance with laws and regulations is the cornerstone of the evaluation of the supplier. At the end of the nineteenth century, the content and practice of statistics underwent a series of transitions that led to its emergence as a highly specialised mathematical discipline. These intellectual and later institutional changes were, in part, brought about by a mathematical-statistical translation of Charles Darwin's redefinition of the biological species as something that could be viewed in terms of populations. Karl Pearson and W.F.R. Weldon's mathematical reconceptualisation of Darwinian biological variation and "statistical" population of species in the 1890s provided the framework within which a major paradigmatic shift occurred in statistical techniques and theory. Weldon's work on the shore crab in Naples and Plymouth from 1892 to 1895 not only brought them into the forefront of ideas of speciation and provided the impetus to Pearson's earliest statistical innovations, but it also led to Pearson shifting his professional interests from having had an established career as a mathematical physicist to developing one as a biometrician. The innovative statistical work Pearson undertook with Weldon in 1892 and later with Francis Galton in 1894 enabled him to lay the foundations of modern mathematical statistics. While Pearson's diverse publications, his establishment of four laboratories and the creation of new academic departments underscore the plurality of his work, the main focus of his life-long career was in the establishment and promulgation of his statistical methodology. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine if the non-linear terms in polynomial regression analysis (PRA) explain substantial amounts of variance in assumed outcomes over and above the linear terms. This meta-analysis reviewed a total of 30 studies from 25 articles on person–environment (P-E) fit in which PRA was used. We found that none of the 30 studies did rigorous cross-validation for PRA. In addition, the overall population R2 change attributable to the non-linear terms (PE, P2 and E2) in PRA was only .008. However, the P-E interaction term may be more important in some situations than in others, based on the data gathered here. Specifically, the non-linear terms in PRA added to the variance explained by the linear terms (P and E) when studies examined assumed outcome variables like contextual performance or job attitudes as opposed to task performance. In summary, PRA could potentially be effective in investigating P-E fit and other human resource management-related phenomena when it is used in appropriate scenarios. 相似文献
