This study aims to explain price movements in the two largest cryptocurrencies that represent the majority of cryptocurrency market capitalization—Bitcoin and Ethereum. A VAR‐GARCH‐BEKK model is estimated to analyze how Google search interest, number of tweets and active addresses on the blockchain impact prices of Bitcoin and Ethereum over time. We find solid evidence that the amount of active addresses is the most significant variable among others influencing price movements in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Based on spillover effects and GIRFs, Google searches and tweets, to a certain extent, have impacts on the Bitcoin and Ethereum prices, but the impacts are weaker than that of active addresses in terms of magnitude and significance. 相似文献

Service workers are expected to maintain high‐quality service delivery despite customer mistreatment—the poor‐quality treatment of service workers by customers—which can be demeaning and threatening to self‐esteem. Although service work is increasingly delivered by middle‐aged and older workers, very little is known about how employees across the age range navigate abuse from customers on the job. Does advancing age help or hinder service performance in reaction to customer mistreatment? Drawing on strength and vulnerability integration theory, we proposed that age paradoxically both helps and hinders performance after customer mistreatment, albeit at different stages. We tested our proposed model in a two‐sample field investigation of service workers and their supervisors using a time‐lagged, dyadic design. Results showed that age heightens the experience of self‐esteem threat but, nevertheless, dampens reactions to self‐esteem threat, leading to divergent effects on performance at different stages. Implications for age and service work, as well as aging and the sense of self, are discussed. 相似文献

This study examined the relationships of teachers’ work engagement with their professionalism and openness to change and investigated the moderating role of the transformational leadership of principals in explaining these relationships. Multilevel data were collected from 1,886 teachers from 59 schools in South Korea, and multilevel path analysis was performed to analyze the data. The study results found that teachers’ work engagement was positively influenced by their professionalism and openness to change in the Korean educational setting. However, no significant relationship was found between teachers’ work engagement and the transformational leadership of principals. It also showed that the transformational leadership of principals positively moderated the relationship between work engagement and openness to change of teachers. Finally, we identified the negative moderating effect of the transformational leadership of principals on the relationship between work engagement and professionalism of teachers. The theoretical implications of these findings are provided along with practical suggestions for policy makers, superintendents, and teacher education institutes. 相似文献

Controversy over labor market policy often centers on achieving a balance between preventing worker exploitation, and avoiding loss of productivity or employment through excessive regulation. Although the literature documenting the impact of labor market regulation on employment is extensive, there is a dearth of evidence on the impact of such policies in low‐income countries (LICs). Since it is easier for workers, especially women, to slip into the informal sector in LICs, regulations are likely to have stronger impacts on formal employment in these countries (but lower impacts on unemployment). We systematically reviewed available research from countries that are, or were until recently, LICs. Most studies document that more stringent labor regulations are associated with lower formal sector employment and higher informal sector employment. We also conducted a metaregression analysis of the impact of minimum wages on formal and informal employment. After controlling for publication bias, higher minimum wages are associated with lower formal employment and a higher share of informal workers. 相似文献

This article presents an analysis of the newly created European company Societas Europaea (SE) focusing on the consequences for European corporate governance. The SE offers the possibility to organise the management of a SE as a one‐tier, or alternatively a two‐tier, system. It is argued that this flexibility will not result in a single board system prevailing in equilibrium, but instead this choice will be made depending on each firm’s business environment. Thus, the SE gives the management the option to incorporate in another member state. As argued, this will, eventually, lay the ground for a European market for incorporations. Important issues such as investor protection and dual‐class voting shares are also analysed. The most controversial topic in the creation process of the SE was the role of the employees. The article completes with a discussion of the employees’ role in relation to the opponent doctrines of shareholder vs stakeholder value. 相似文献

Previous research investigating cross‐border M&As (CBM&As) by emerging economies (EEs) provided contrasting evidence on the value enhancement role of investor protection rules. We conduct a new empirical study to address the issue with an accurate sample selection of bidders from more homogeneous developing countries and transactions on developed countries only. Our analysis over the 1997–2012 period on a sample of M&A deals by companies from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) does not provide evidence that better institutional standards in the destination country are rewarded by the local stock market. We find that foreign governance quality is not associated with positive excess stock returns around the announcement date. Rather, these returns are affected by firm‐specific and deal‐specific factors, such as the relative deal size, the listed status of the target company, and the acquirer size. Comparison with other studies on excess returns for emerging markets (including BRICs) suggests that the results could be driven at least partially by country choice. 相似文献

Foreboding declarations about contemporary urban trends pervade early twenty‐first century academic, political and journalistic discourse. Among the most widely recited is the claim that we now live in an ‘urban age’ because, for the first time in human history, more than half the world's population today purportedly lives within cities. Across otherwise diverse discursive, ideological and locational contexts, the urban age thesis has become a form of doxic common sense around which questions regarding the contemporary global urban condition are framed. This article argues that, despite its long history and its increasingly widespread influence, the urban age thesis is a flawed basis on which to conceptualize world urbanization patterns: it is empirically untenable (a statistical artifact) and theoretically incoherent (a chaotic conception). This critique is framed against the background of postwar attempts to measure the world's urban population, the main methodological and theoretical conundrums of which remain fundamentally unresolved in early twenty‐first century urban age discourse. The article concludes by outlining a series of methodological perspectives for an alternative understanding of the contemporary global urban condition. 相似文献

In this paper, I survey the recent and rapidly increasing theoretical literature using the brand‐new approach in embedding oligopolistic competition in general equilibrium, as designed by J. Peter Neary. First, I introduce the reader to Neary's approach, by describing the main ingredients. Then, I present a comprehensive set of studies that, over the last decade, apply this approach in different contexts, most of which are in open economy, and I examine the relevant outcomes. Although the theoretical literature has generously advanced, there is a lack of research on the empirical side, which would be an important area for future research besides theoretical extensions, some of which I highlight in the conclusions. 相似文献

Job pursuit refers to the intentions, decisions, or behaviors indicative of a candidate's interest in a particular employer. This study develops and tests a process model of job pursuit for MBA interns with data collected before, during, and after their internships. Our model integrates theory from the person‐environment fit and organizational socialization literature. Results show pre‐entry person‐organization (P‐O) fit and social aspects tactics jointly motivate proactive information seeking about the employer (from those inside and outside the assigned department) during the internship, and interactively motivate information seeking outside the assigned department. Yet, only information seeking inside the assigned department is related to learning about the employer. Learning about the employer also predicts job‐acceptance intentions, which in turn predicts job‐acceptance decisions. The model developed in this study should serve as a guide to help human resource managers understand job pursuit and acceptance in internships and other similar employment relationships. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献
