Long memory in volatilities of German stock returns 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
We show that there is strong evidence of long-range dependence in the volatilities of several German stock returns. This will be done by applying a method using the difference of the classical log-periodogram regression estimator for the memory parameter and of the tapered periodogram based estimator. Both estimators give similar values for the memory parameter for each series and this indicates long memory. To support our findings we apply also a methodology using the sample variance and a wavelet based estimator to the data. Monetary policy and financial markets are intrinsically linked. Central banks conduct monetary policy by influencing financial
market prices. Financial market prices reflect the expectations of market participants about future economic and monetary
developments. Monetary policy works primarily through expectations. Transparency and credibility render monetary policy more
effective. However, they are no substitutes for action. If a credible central bank uses words with the explicit aim of substituting
them for action, it will risk losing credibility. To avoid what has been described as “the dog chasing its tail” problem,
central banks must exercise caution in basing their monetary policy decisions on financial market information. The information
about expected future developments reflected in market prices must be continuously cross-checked against economic and monetary

This paper analyzes the role of banks’ regulatory capitalization in the transmission of monetary policy. We use a confidential
dataset for Austrian banks spanning from the first quarter of 1997 to the fourth quarter of 2003. We find evidence that Austrian
banks react in an asymmetric way to monetary policy depending on their regulatory excess capitalization, i.e. low capitalized
banks react more restrictively to a monetary tightening than their highly capitalized peers.

Candidate gene studies of human behavior are gaining interest in economics and entrepreneurship research. Performing and interpreting these studies is not straightforward because the selection of candidates influences the interpretation of the results. As an example, Nicolaou et al. (Small Bus Econ 36:151?C155, 2011) report a significant association between a common genetic variant in the DRD3 gene and the tendency to be an entrepreneur. The purpose of this study is to identify generational differences and similarities among hospitality employees and managers in order to develop leadership strategies and management styles that can be utilized to increase employee morale and productivity while enhancing recruitment and retention rates of highly qualified workers. Data for this study were collected through a series of in-depth focus group discussions. Findings indicated significant generational differences in world views, attitudes toward authority and perspectives on work. Findings suggested the Baby Boomers respect authority and hierarchy, while the Generation X-ers (Gen X-ers) rebel against authority. Findings also suggested while Baby Boomers live to work, Gen X-ers work to live. The Baby Boomers are willing to wait their turn for promotions and rewards, and are very loyal. On the other hand, Gen X-ers expect immediate recognition through title, praise, promotion, and pay. They also want a life outside of work—they are not likely to sacrifice theirs for the company. The Millennial Generation believes in collective action, with optimism of the future, and trust in centralized authority. They like teamwork, showing a strong will to get things done with a great spirit. 相似文献
