The fast growth of the Chinese economy has transformed Chinese outbound tourism into one of the major players in the tourism industry worldwide. However, Chinese outbound tourists may still encounter travel constraints in some countries, such as Japan, which has had a close and complicated relationship in history with China. This study adopted the qualitative approach by applying focus group and in-depth interviews to investigate and triangulate the travel barriers affecting Chinese outbound travel to Japan. The findings indicated that domestic nationalist sentiment played a key constraining role in influencing Chinese outbound travel decision-making, followed by current political factors, while quality products and service, as well as social environment encouraged tourists to travel. This research also found that visitors and non-visitors have perception differences in terms of travel barriers and attractiveness of travel. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this article is to present a study which explores the origin of applied creativity in the culinary industry, in Taiwan. A total of 36 Chinese and Western cuisine chefs from five-star hotels and top restaurants were interviewed to provide the data from this study. The findings indicate that the role of applied creativity in the culinary industry has played a key role in culinary change and evolution in Taiwan. Culinary creativity has its own distinct characteristics, such as time limitations and market acceptance, which are acquired through building blocks of professional skills and experience. The study contributes to understanding the role of applied creativity in the culinary industry. 相似文献

In recent decades, most new metropolitan population and job growth has occurred in the suburbs. Conventional wisdom suggests that because of the selective nature of suburban labor market development, most metropolitan workers currently live further from their jobs. Distance, in turn, fragments urban labor markets and creates physical and informational barriers to employment.

A bstract . Several governmental programs attempt to relieve economic stress for given segments of the population. Their success is often contingent upon how accurately economic distress in given areas can be identified and measured. The indicator most commonly used is the poverty rate or a related measure, such as the proportion of persons with incomes below 150% of the designated poverty threshold. However, these poverty thresholds are determined nationally and thus fail to take account of local income levels or variations in living costs. Nationally determined poverty thresholds obscure the existence of economic distress in affluent areas. This paper explores an alternate methodology that relates household income at the census tract level to county median household income in order to identify areas of significant poverty. The findings are then compared with official poverty statistics. The analysis is performed for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, two affluent suburban counties located on Long Island , adjacent to New York City. The data used came from the 1990 decennial census. 相似文献

Within stream restoration practice there has been little use of formal decision analysis methods for evaluating tradeoffs
in selecting restoration sites and design alternatives. Restoration planning suffers from poorly defined objectives, confusion
of objectives and means, and a lack of consideration of tradeoffs. Multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods have the
potential to improve restoration decision making by quantifying non-economic objectives, communicating tradeoffs, facilitating
consistent and explicit valuation, and focusing negotiation on ultimate objectives. To explore the potential usefulness of
MCDA, we first review restoration practices and define the characteristics of projects that are good candidates for MCDA.
We also present two case studies. The first study is a prioritization of stream reaches for restoration that illustrates how
value judgments can affect such decisions. The second study addresses the proposed removal of the Ballville Dam on the Sandusky
River in Ohio. An important challenge in the dam removal decision is the linking of habitat improvements to changes in species
populations and ecological services that people value. The analysis shows how MCDA can assist decision making by clarifying
tradeoffs, in this case by showing that the key issues are conflicts among ecological criteria—not all of which are improved

This research was designed to identify halal-friendly travel motivation factors and unearth their role in Muslim customer retention process in Korea. Qualitative and quantitative procedures were used to achieve research objectives. A comprehensive structural model was developed to distinguish the role of all proposed indicators. Our results revealed that halal-friendly travel motivations are significantly associated with customer return on investment and satisfaction, and that such relationships contribute to improving customer retention. The effectiveness of higher-order structure of halal-friendly travel motivations was demonstrated. The formation of Muslim customers’ post-purchase decisions was significantly moderated by the sense of belonging to a tourist destination. 相似文献

This study investigated the views of travelers’ choices of informal accommodations, Airbnb in Hong Kong from the perspectives of three stakeholders. A qualitative approach was applied, both interviews and focus group discussions were conducted. A total of 69 participants shared their views on why users choose Airbnb over traditional hotels. The findings highlighted that hoteliers and Airbnb users presented different rankings on the determinants of accommodation choice. The implications of the destination image and the population density were discussed. The findings of this study can serve as a reference for any city/country where has a similar cultural background and population density. 相似文献

This article models the US equity premium as a regime‐switching process where the regimes are dependent on economic variables. To characterise the economic regimes, we employ the dimension reduction technique of a principal components analysis to extract business cycle signals from a set of observed macroeconomic variables. We use these conditioning agents to infer the ex ante economic regime. We then test a dynamic asset allocation strategy, which invests in equity and cash on the basis of the predicted regimes. This timing strategy is shown to outperform a simple buy and hold strategy on a risk‐adjusted basis. 相似文献
