The principal objective of this paper is to detect any partial effects due to architecture on home value. The empirical results show that premium prices are associated with the historical architectural styles like colonial, federal, garrison, and Victorian. A second objective to detect potential impacts of historic zoning, however, does not show conclusively that the historic district of Newburyport has positive external effects.  相似文献

Missing data (MD) is prevalent in empirical social science research (Allison, http://books.google.ca/books?id=ZtYArHXjpB8Canddq=missing+dataandprintsec=frontcoverandsource=blandots=ziTBvDHxWbandsig=Uiy83xDbWSO4HeBSth0Q_oZIrQandhl=enandei=q6A7Su25ApnIM-eYlccOandsa=Xandoi=book_resultandct=resultandresnum, 2001; Rubin in J Am Stat Assoc 91:473?C489, 1996). Furthermore, inconsistencies in the reporting and treatment of MD have been documented (Peugh and Enders in Rev Educ Res 74:525?C556, 2004). The goal of the current project was to examine how MD was reported and treated in 68 studies issued from a refereed educational journal. It was observed that a fifth of the quantitative articles reviewed actually treated MD, using mainly deletion methods and only 10% of the explicit articles explained MD. Overall, MD reported or inferred averaged about 33% of cases and was commonly associated with missing subjects. Only three articles provided the actual percentages of MD. The results suggest that there may be a lack of consistency in how MD is reported and treated and that studies may remain deficient in how MD is addressed. The importance of the study was to signal tendencies in reporting and treating MD, to provide tentative explanations for such trends, to propose hypotheses for future empirical studies in the field, and to offer an initial set of practical guidelines for including addressing, explaining, and treating MD in educational research.  相似文献

The ability to reconcile work and private life is a matter relevant to all employees, though not all may seek “balance.” Research indicates that organisational work–life balance policies and flexible working arrangements often focus on the needs of working parents, with one potential outcome being “family‐friendly backlash,” or counterproductive work behaviour from those without caring responsibilities. This paper analyses data from 36 interviews with childless solo‐living managers and professionals, exploring perceptions of fairness in relation to these policies. In contrast to previous studies, despite recognising a strong family‐care orientation in employer provisions, perceptions of unfair treatment or injustice were not pronounced in most cases, and thus there was little evidence of backlash/counterproductive work behaviour. The paper uses and develops organisational justice theory to explain the findings, emphasising the importance of situating individual justice orientations within perceived organisational policy and wider regulatory contexts. It also emphasises the importance of evaluating fairness of work–life balance policies and flexible working arrangements in relation to other aspects of the employment relationship, notably opportunities for career development and progression.  相似文献

This paper examines the effects of interest rate news on changes in forward foreign exchange rates. Virtually none of the errors in forecasting forward exchange rates are explained by interest rate forecasting errors. The results are consistent with a conjecture that the forward exchange rate is not an estimate of the expected spot exchange rate.  相似文献
