Axiomatic approach to approximate solutions in multiobjective optimization

An axiomatic approach is introduced in order to study the approximate solution map of a vector optimization problem in the image space. We investigate the possibility to formulate an appropriate notion of approximate solutions that is compatible with von Neumann–Morgenstern utility theory. An impossibility result is proved in the sense that, whenever all of the axioms are satisfied, either the set of the approximate solutions is a subset of the exact solutions of the problem, or it coincides with the whole admissible set. Moreover, the geometry of the approximate solution map is studied in some special cases.      

Set-valued solution concepts using interval-type payoffs for interval games

Uncertainty is a daily presence in the real world. It affects our decision making and may have influence on cooperation. Often uncertainty is so severe that we can only predict some upper and lower bounds for the outcome of our actions, i.e., payoffs lie in some intervals. A suitable game theoretic model to support decision making in collaborative situations with interval data is that of cooperative interval games. Solution concepts that associate with each cooperative interval game sets of interval allocations with appealing properties provide a natural way to capture the uncertainty of coalition values into the players’ payoffs. In this paper, some set-valued solution concepts using interval payoffs, namely the interval core, the interval dominance core and the interval stable sets for cooperative interval games, are introduced and studied. The main results contained in the paper are a necessary and sufficient condition for the non-emptiness of the interval core of a cooperative interval game and the relations between the interval core, the interval dominance core and the interval stable sets of such a game.     

Assignment Games Satisfy the CoMa-Property

A balanced game satisfies the CoMa-property if and only if the extreme points of its core are marginal vectors. In this note we prove that assignment games satisfy the CoMa-property. Journal of Economic Literature Classification Numbers: C71, C78.     

Yet another look at temporal aggregation in diffusion models of first-time purchase

This paper gives yet another look at the impact of temporal aggregation on the parameter estimates for the familiar Bass diffusion model. It is shown that aggregation leads to larger values of the innovation parameter p and that it is leads to smaller values of the imitation parameter q, at least in theory. The last finding is in contrast with the results in Technological Forecasting and Social Change [51 (1996) 265]. We use simulation experiments to substantiate our results.     

Simple Flow Games

This paper considers simple flow situations. We introduce the minimum cut solution and characterize it in terms of one-person efficiency, consistency, and converse consistency. Furthermore, we give several relations between the core of a simple flow game and four other solution concepts: the minimum cut solution, the least core, the kernel, and the bargaining set.Journal of Economic LiteratureClassification Numbers: C71.     

Market Timing and Capital Structure: Evidence for Dutch Firms

Summary We examine market timing and its effects on capital structures for a sample of Dutch listed firms and a sub-sample of Dutch initial public offering (IPO) firms. The results yield evidence of market timing. Stock price run-ups increase the probabilities of equity and dual issues. Further, the effects of stock price run-ups on the choices between issuance of debt, equity or both are consistent with the predictions of the market timing hypothesis. However, in contrast to the existing evidence for US firms, we do not find persistent effects of market timing on capital structures of Dutch firms. The Effect of Online Protests and Firm Responses on Shareholder and Consumer Evaluation

This study examined the link between employees’ adult attachment orientations and perceptions of line managers’ interpersonal justice behaviors, and the moderating effect of national culture (collectivism). Participants from countries categorized as low collectivistic (N = 205) and high collectivistic (N = 136) completed an online survey. Attachment anxiety and avoidance were negatively related to interpersonal justice perceptions. Cultural differences did not moderate the effects of avoidance. However, the relationship between attachment anxiety and interpersonal justice was non-significant in the Southern Asia (more collectivistic) cultural cluster. Our findings indicate the importance of ‘fit’ between cultural relational values and individual attachment orientations in shaping interpersonal justice perceptions, and highlight the need for more non-western organizational justice research.
