This article introduces a conceptualization of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that emphasizes the role and potential
contribution of the marketing discipline. The proposed framework first depicts CSR initiatives as the actions undertaken to
display conformity to both organizational and stakeholder norms. Then, the article discusses the managerial processes needed
to monitor, meet, and even exceed, stakeholder norms. Finally, the analysis explains how CSR initiatives can generate increased
stakeholder support.

A mail survey was conducted to empirically investigate contributions to charity as a method of stimulating responses to a
mail survey. The research design included a control group and four experimental groups with the following treatments: a prepayment
of $1.00 enclosed with the questionnaire (immediate personal reward), $1.00 promised upon return of the questionnaire with
the respondent identified (delayed personal reward, no anonymity), $1.00 promised upon return of the questionnaire with no
identification of the respondent (delayed personal reward, anonymity), and the promise of $1.00 contribution to a respondent-selected
charity (delayed non-personal reward). The $1.00 prepayment yielded a statistically significant higher response rate than
the $1.00 promised to charity or $1.00 promised upon return of the questionnaire. This study generally supports existing empirical
foudnations of equity theory. An immediate personal reward yields a higher response rate than a delayed personal or non-personal
reward. 相似文献

Economists and marketers have developed theoretical constructs which suggest that effective market segmentation can be used
to identify differences in price sensitivity among market theory in the industrial marketing literature by using marketing
research to distinguish market segments that are useful in industrial pricing decisions. Both macrosegmentation, using characteristics
of customers (that is, end-use and usage level), as well as microsegmentation (using behavioral variables) were utilized in
a survey of natural gas customers to determine if segments of the industrial market differ in price sensitivity. 相似文献

Direct selling, defined as a sales channel without a fixed retail location, was built on the premise of leveraging an individual's social networks. This industry is being redirected by embracing social media; here, the challenge lies in providing the benefits of face-to-face selling, augmented by social media. An examination of the Direct Selling News ‘Global 100 Top Direct Sellers’ found that Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter represent the most widely employed social networks in the industry. While 76% of direct sellers utilize social media for promotional purposes, 55% use it for recruiting new distributors and 42% use it for reactive purposes. Consumers are the most popular target for social media, followed by distributors and communities. Social media has evolved as a driver of strategy, and will become even more important in the future. Improved customer relationships are developing by listening and reacting to concerns. The transparency created by social media is enhancing trust and ethical organizational cultures. Finally, consumer brand communities are emerging that increase brand value. 相似文献

Utilizing Resource-Advantage Theory as the underlying theoretical foundation and drawing on literature from a variety of disciplines,
we develop a market-oriented sustainability framework. By incorporating sustainability into market orientation, the goal of
strategic alignment of sustainability with marketing strategies is achieved to create a competitive advantage. Three constructs
identified in the model are DNA, stakeholder involvement, and performance management. These three constructs are the drivers
of sustainability. DNA is used as an extended metaphor to clarify and illustrate the workings of an organization and how sustainability
may be implemented. This construct includes core ideology, dynamic capabilities, and societal engagement. The firm’s DNA is
communicated to both internal and external stakeholders, and stakeholders’ concerns should be an influence on strategic marketing
planning. Performance management is the third major construct in the model and includes corporate social performance and corporate
financial performance metrics. Within the model explication, we offer propositions to support market-oriented sustainability
research and provide directions for sustainability theory, research, and practice. 相似文献

Abstract Written by several executives of the International Advertising Association, “The Global Challenge to Advertising” was first made public at the 23rd IAA World Congress in Dublin in early June of 1973. The study, with detailed examples from many areas, brings into focus the two main currents of world-wide opposition to advertising: mounting consumer dissatisfaction with product quality and claims, and increasing government regulation and control of advertising. It is reprinted here by permission of the International Advertising Association, 475 Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017. 相似文献

Influence allocation processes are voting and opinion aggregating methods that allow members to distribute some or all of their decision making influence to others in the group in order to exploit not only the group's knowledge of the alternatives, but its knowledge of itself. Only with the common use of group decision support systems (GDSS) has their use become practical. In this paper we reconsider SPAN, an influence allocation process introduced by MacKinnon (1966a). Experimental comparison shows SPAN to be significantly better at selecting a correct option from a set of options than two common voting methods. An alternative influence allocation process that we call RCON (Rational Consensus), is based on a weighting method proposed by DeGroot (1974) and has been explicated as a normative standard for combining opinion by Lehrer and Wagner (1981). The judgmental inputs to SPAN would appear to be logically related to those for RCON. Submitting the SPAN inputs from the experiment, transformed in this logical way, to the RCON process results in somewhat better performance than with SPAN. However, evidence indicated that the two methods are conceptually and psychologically sufficiently different that an experimental comparison is needed between them. 相似文献

Measuring Corporate Citizenship in Two Countries: The Case of the United States and France 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Based on an extensive review of the literature and field surveys, the paper proposes a conceptualization and operationalization of corporate citizenship meaningful in two countries: the United States and France. A survey of 210 American and 120 French managers provides support for the proposed definition of corporate citizenship as a construct including the four correlated factors of economic, legal, ethical, and discretionary citizenship. The managerial implications of the research and directions for future research are discussed. 相似文献

This paper examines the perceived ethics of advertisers and the general public relative to three ethical concepts. Based on the survey findings, it can be concluded that with regard to the ethically-laden concepts of manipulation, exploitation, and deviousness, advertisers are perceptually as ethical as the general public. The research also clarifies some of the differences between ethics and Machiavellianism.John P. Fraedrich is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
