Research increasingly shows interest in the motives and characteristics of entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry. Small and medium-sized family firms dominate this industry. Learning from the concept of entrepreneurial orientation and family business research, this explorative study aims at analysing entrepreneurial behaviours and their effect on performance as perceived by owner-managers of hospitality family businesses. The authors conduct narrative in-depth interviews to understand the managers' meaning of entrepreneurship and performance, and discuss the results in the light of existing entrepreneurship literature. Results indicate that family firms in hospitality and tourism are peculiar, and their embeddedness in the destinations and regions outlines their entrepreneurial behaviour against Schumpeter's definition of growth-oriented entrepreneurship. 相似文献

A conceptual framework is extended to take into account differences between inexperienced novice entrepreneurs (that is, individuals with no prior private business ownership experience) and experienced serial and portfolio entrepreneurs. Some policymakers and practitioners are considering whether resources could be more effectively utilized if they were targeted toward serial and portfolio entrepreneurs, rather than in the form of additional initiatives to increase the pool of “pure” nascent entrepreneurs and novice entrepreneurs. To inform this policy debate, similarities and differences between novice, serial, and portfolio entrepreneurs are highlighted with regard to their decisions, actions, performance, and aspirations. We detected that portfolio entrepreneurs were more likely to express dimensions of entrepreneurial behavior. Privatisation Vouchers in Russia were heavily invested in the holders' own firms. Using data from a recent survey, we show
that insider control in firms privatised in 1992-4 through the voucher process (as distinct from the earlier leased buy-out
method) is insecure and dependent on managers' support. For employees, investment in insider control appears to have been
motivated by employment income insurance rather than expected excess returns on the equity. Managers are predominantly the
same individuals as before privatisation and display considerable hostility to outside investors, probably because they fear
dismissal should outsiders gain control. Despite insider control, firms are shedding labour quite rapidly through voluntary
resignations. Employment dynamics appear to be unrelated to insider equity ownership.

Samples of university students from the United States, Eastern cultures, and Western cultures rated thirty‐one classroom instructional behaviors for appropriateness in their culture. U.S. students had significantly higher appropriateness ratings than Eastern students on clarity of presentation, enthusiasm, classroom interaction, and spatial‐behavioral communication behaviors.
