Research shows that, under certain circumstances, people using GSS can be substantially more productive than people who do not. However GSS has been slow to transition into the workplace. This paper argues that the Technology Transition Model (TTM) may be a useful way to explain this seeming paradox. The paper presents a case study of GSS transition in two organizations – one where a self-sustaining and growing community of users emerged, and one where it did not. Following TTM, it explores the frequency with which users perceived cognitive, economic, affective, political, social, and physical value from using the system. Comparison of the cases reveals differences in perceptions of value along several of these dimensions that are consistent with TTM. The findings suggest the model may be a useful way to explain the transition of collaboration technology, but more research will be required to test the model more rigorously. 相似文献

For centuries, the “Blue Banana” — a banana-shaped metropolitan axis running from London to Milan — has been Europe’s breeding place for innovation and growth. Recently, however, the “Sunbelt” from Milan to Valencia and the “Yellow Banana” from Paris to Warsaw have been identified as future European growth poles beside or even beyond the Blue Banana. How likely it is that the structure of Europe’s economic-geographical system will change in the next decades? 相似文献

Inspired by the success of geographical clustering in California, many governments pursue cluster policy in the hope to build
the next Silicon Valley. In this paper we critically assess the relationship between geographical clustering and public policy.
With the help of a range of theoretical insights and case study examples we show that cluster policy in fact is a risky\ venture,
especially when it is tried to copy the success of regional ‘best practices’. Therefore, we advice policy makers to move away
from the Silicon Valley model and to modestly start from a place-specific approach of ‘Regional Realism’. 相似文献

With the enlargement of the European Union its “Rustbelt”, the mosaic of regions traditionally specialised in heavy industries such as coal and steel, will also be enlarged. The new member states in Eastern Europe have many regions that face industrial decline and need to be restructured. What can these traditional industrial areas learn from the case of the German Ruhrgebiet, one of Europe’s most prominent examples of regional industrial restructuring? 相似文献

Decision-making in organizations is guided by policies. Organizational policy-making is a complex process in which several parties are involved, with multiple backgrounds, incompatible interests, and diverging areas of interest, yet they all have to be brought together to produce an acceptable policy result. Therefore, we propose to use techniques from collaboration engineering (CE) in this context. There is hardly any experience with CE in the field of organizational policy-making. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of CE in organizational policy-making, it is important to have a systematic evaluation instrument. We distinguish between general and domain-specific indicators. Moreover, we consider measurement means and operationalization tools, such that organizational policy-making stakeholders can apply our instrument in their own organization. 相似文献

In promoting European regional development, policymakers tend to pursue either an offensive, future-oriented or a defensive,
tradition-preserving type of policy. Backed by theoretical notions and case evidence from an “ordinary” region, i. e. the
Italian island of Sardinia, the following paper argues that European regions could benefit more from a “connective” type of
policy that aims to connect lobal trends with local traditions.
