Market life,age structure and renewal—an analysis of pharmaceutical specialities and substances in Sweden 1960–82

The assortment of drugs on the Swedish market has been analysed in order to illustrate its current structure and its qualitative and quantitative changes. The analysis comprises both active substances and pharmaceutical specialities, and it has in several cases been divided into different pharmacological groups and into Swedish and imported products. The main aspects are: market life of products introduced since 1960; withdrawal of drugs; age of the current assortment of drugs; structural changes during 15 years; new drugs introduced since 1960; combinations; synonyms.     

Problemzonen? Nein, Danke!

Zusammenfasung  YOGA bei Gesundheitsproblemen — Yoga bietet viele übungen, die den unteren Rücken, Bauch und Oberschenkel st?rken, dabei Haltung und Aussehen verbessern und Kraft und Selbstvertrauen aufbauen. Und anstatt über Problemzonen zu lamentieren und zu (selbst)kritisch zu sein, ist es allemal besser, seine Energie ins üben zu stecken.

A comparison of regret-based and utility-based discrete choice modelling – an empirical illustration with hospital bed choice

There is some concern that the unobserved preference heterogeneity in random utility maximization theory-based discrete choice experiment modelling is an important source of error variability. The randomness in utility is often interpreted as interpersonal preference heterogeneity but it can also be intrapersonal random variation in preferences. We compare utility maximization and regret minimization-based choice models’ sensitivity to individual heterogeneity, examine differences between two consecrated models and validate with empirical illustrations. We use frequency of category (public, semi-private, and private) of bed chosen from Swiss cross-sectional datasets (2007–2012) to compare two approaches – utility maximization and regret minimization by applying multinomial logit (MNL) models in regard to the variances in utility (regret) function, goodness-of-fit and predicted marginal effects (pseudo-elasticity) of additional payment. We find parameters with the same sign and estimates with almost same order of magnitude in both the approaches. The statistical significance of attribute effects is consistent in all variants of utility -based MNL models while effects of different attributes are significant only in heteroskedastic extreme value (HEV) variant of regret-based MNL models. This empirical illustration suggests that HEV variant of regret-based models perform better in capturing attribute effects in choice behaviour.     

Urban Citizenship and Right to the City: The Fragmentation of Claims

In this symposium, we explore how urban citizenship is about expressing, if not producing, difference, and how fragmentation of claims affects urban citizenship and right to the city movements with their universal, all‐inclusive ideals. Investigating social movements, political participation and conflicting diversities in public space in Tel Aviv and Berlin, we see a trend towards a diversification of interests, a weakening of movements, and even a competition over rights and resources rather than a development of mutual support and solidarities among various groups on the pathway to a livable city. This tension, we argue, deserves attention. Radical urban scholarship and politics need to better understand the historical and place‐specific contexts that structure the formation of citizenship claims and the courses that citizenship struggles take. Celebrations of urban citizenship as a more contextualized, community oriented, and bottom‐up framework (in comparison to national citizenship) should therefore be complemented by a careful investigation of their fragmented and fragmenting practices.

Komplement?r dazu schafft diese Haltung eine Erweiterung des Atemraums. Das wird am Beispiel der Fischposition deutlich.     

DOES RELIGIOSITY AFFECT SUPPORT FOR POLITICAL COMPROMISE?

Does religiosity affect adherents' attitude toward political compromise? To address this question and overcome the potential simultaneity of religious activity and political attitudes, we exploit exogenous variation in the start date of the Selichot (“Forgiveness”), a period in which many Jews, including nonadherents, take part in an intense prayer schedule. Using a two‐wave survey, we find that an increase in the salience of religiosity leads to the adoption of more hard‐line positions against a land‐for‐peace compromise. Examining several potential mechanisms for this attitudinal shift, our evidence points to the impact of the intensified prayer period on adherents' tolerance for risk.
