Partner diversity is a key influencer in interorganizational alliances, and several empirical studies have shown that its outcomes are contingent on alliance‐specific factors. We extend this research as well as the growing literature on green alliances, in which partner diversity is uniquely high. Specifically, we examine partner‐diversity effects on alliance termination in the early stage of green alliance formation. We hypothesize that in this context, size disparity increases termination likelihood, whereas organizational variety and cultural separation have the opposite effect. To test our hypotheses, we use a sample of 366 alliance projects located in Latin America and submitted to the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism for evaluation, validation, and registration from 2004 to 2014. Our findings contribute to several research streams and provide practical guidance for successful formation of alliances focused on environmental protection.  相似文献

This paper examines how alliance co-specialization and scope extension affect firm value at the time of alliance formation and termination, and whether value creation upon alliance formation also explains value creation upon termination. Building on the relational view of the firm, we develop predictions that are tested using event study methodology and data on code-sharing alliances formed, extended, and terminated between 1994 and 2008. The findings suggest that from a stock market perspective alliance formation and termination can be seen as two interrelated events and that it is difficult to reverse initial valuations past the alliance formation phase. They also suggest that the stock market reacts to alliance formation more critically than to post-formation decisions such as alliance scope extensions and terminations.  相似文献

The paper compares the structural characteristics, market conditions, organizational features, strategic behaviour and performance of merged versus non-merged private business establishments in Britain. The results are based on the analysis of the 1990 Workplace Industrial Relations Survey. The following conclusions are reached: merged establishments tend to be rather old, of small to medium size, more likely to be foreign-owned and to be involved in manufacturing. Compared to non-merged establishments they are likely to operate in international and oligopolistic markets, in multi-products and in conglomerate businesses. The merged manufacturing establishments are more likely to have been involved in restructuring strategies and to have cut jobs and achieved productivity gains. More merged establishments declare a below-average financial performance.  相似文献

In 1996, the French business publication "Capital" carried an analysis of what it called "the resurrection of the dinosaurs": the revival of corporations that had been viewed as moribund. Examples abound in every industrialised country: Chrysler, IBM or General Electric in the United States and Usinor-Sacilor, Siemens or Fiat in Europe. What strategies are behind these cases of revival? This article describes how, starting in 1993, a French company sought to renew itself by implementing one particular strategy which has been widely discussed among managers and academics alike: competence building. It then discusses the general lessons which can be drawn from the case. In particular, the article aims to reveal empirically the relationship between competence building and the corporate renewal process and then to use the case history to help develop the theory of competence-based competition between firms.  相似文献

Using data from a representative 1989 household survey for Italy we estimate random-coefficient earnings frontiers by gender, marital status and location. These estimates are used to calculate discrimination indices. Our results show that fixed coefficients can be rejected in all cases. A wide range on the estimated coefficients indicates a high degree of variation in the quality of the observed human-capital variables as well as different degrees of ability as perceived by the employer. We find reverse discrimination for single females in the South and the North. For married females there is evidence of discrimination, particularly in the South. We isolate the effects of tenure and education on discrimination and find that these reduce discrimination for Southern-married females.  相似文献

Considering the situation of low performance of joint ventures, a certain number of studies have concluded that there is a close relationship between the initial conditions of creation of joint ventures and their success or failure. Nevertheless, other explanatory factors can be identified through dynamic analysis of the joint venture. For this purpose, on the basis of the case of the Franco‐Brazilian Algar‐Bull joint venture in the information technology sector, from its creation in 1983 to its dissolution in 1998, the aim of our research is to study the influence of external evolution processes ( partners' adaptive strategies and changes in environmental constraints) on the success or failure of a joint venture. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
