Two prominent features of recent changes in agriculture have been the advent of precision breeding techniques and an increase in the level of information netputs in production. This article identifies ways in which these features may complement in expanding the variety of processed products, level of productivity, and rate of change in productivity. Using a martingale concept of information, we identify conditions under which information increases the incentives to invest and engage in product differentiation activities. A theory on how genetic uniformity can enhance the rate of learning through process experimentation, and so the rate of technical change, is developed. 相似文献

Consider an insurer who makes risky investments and hence faces both insurance and financial risks. The insurance business is described by a discrete-time risk model modulated by a stochastic environment that poses systemic and systematic impacts on both the insurance and financial markets. This paper endeavors to quantitatively understand the interplay of the two risks in causing ruin of the insurer. Under the bivariate regular variation framework, we obtain an asymptotic formula to describe the impacts on the insurer's solvency of the two risks and of the stochastic environment. 相似文献

As government-mandated lockdowns and steep declines in trade set in because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a common theme became apparent in the advertising of the time: It was all the same. Regardless of the product category or brand personality, many ads were remarkably similar. They began with melancholy music, voiceovers reminding the audience that the brand is here for them, and referred to these times as “unprecedented” and “extraordinary.” Ads reassured viewers that “together, we can get through this.” In this installment of Marketing & Technology, we articulate the problem of advertising sameness and explore how and why it likely arises during a time of crisis. We then discuss why advertising uniformity is a problem and present a series of strategic, media, and creative considerations—taking into account the constraints of a crisis— to help marketing professionals produce more effective advertising in the context of a disaster. 相似文献

This paper discusses the fundamental hypothesis of policy uniformity under centralized decision making, which underlies Oates'
famous decentralization theorem. The theorem has, in more recent times, come under pressure owing to the prediction that local
public goods are provided to minimum winning coalitions rather than uniformly. The focus of this paper is on the impact of
uniformity rules on political accountability. Using the concept of minimum winning coalitions, it is shown that the power
of voters over politicians vanishes if election districts receive different levels of local public goods. However, the setting
up of sufficiently strong uniformity rules means that voters regain power. According to Oates' theorem, uniformity is the
main disadvantage of centralization but, according to the analysis undertaken in this paper, centralization without uniformity
