The aim of this article is to question the idea that all professional service organizations are undergoing a process of inter-archetype transformation. This idea, originating in organizational archetype theory, is now being used to interpret contemporary processes of change in British and other public sector services. Drawing on an example of management UK restructuring in social services during the 1990s – that of local authority social services in the UK – two main problems with this thesis are identified. First, this service demonstrates that ‘radical’ change has not occurred and that older professional values and working practices persist. Second, it reveals how, in at least one part of the public sector in the UK, management reforms have been partly undermined by a specific constellation of institutions and practices. These observations call for questioning the proposition that inter-archetype change is what has occurred and that current reforms will inevitably have this sort of transformational effect. 相似文献

Co-opetition, or simultaneous competition and cooperation, in the supply chain management literature has been treated as a dyadic relational phenomenon where the buyer's strategy is considered to be the primary driver. In this paper, we move beyond the dyadic view and propose a theory of co-opetition in supply networks. We argue that as firms within a supply network interact over time to access, share, and transform resources, new ties between firms are formed and existing ties dissolve, giving rise to co-opetition dynamics at the network level. Taking a configurational approach, we employ the inter-related dimensions of ties between firm, firm-level task, network-level objective, and governance to specify four practical supply network archetypes that cover a wide range of economic activities. We then explain how coopetitive relationships may evolve in these supply network archetypes. Specifically, we discuss how relationships form or dissolve in these archetypes and how local structural changes lead to co-opetition dynamics at the network level. We also discuss the implications of such dynamics from a managerial perspective. 相似文献

Sparking financial bubbles are irrational impulses—from mania to panic—that play a major role in collective human investment behavior. Contradicting the rational man theory, bubbles keep occurring. But to disregard its influences as aberrations have only rendered conventional economic theory as abstract academia with little practical value. However, allowing for the juxtaposition between the concepts of archetypes and the collective unconscious, as coined by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, and the generic anatomy of financial bubbles could provide fertile ground for an improved understanding of the seemingly irrational behavior. The author aims to demonstrate the workings of archetypes and proposes a measurement methodology designed to capture the subliminal forces that influence investment decisions. 相似文献

Earlier research has demonstrated that organizational environment variables influence employees’ job outcome variables. This study focuses on the organizational practice dimensions of the hospitality industry and demonstrates that: (1) employees’ perceptions of practices can be construed as a limited set of archetypical configurations, and (2) the configurations are related to job outcome variables.
