Entanglements in multispecies voluntourism: conservation and Utila's affect economy

Abstract

Through a case study of conservation voluntourism this article brings together critical political ecology, multispecies ethnography, and studies of humanitarian tourism to advance a political ecology of multispecies conservation voluntourism. The article presents multispecies conservation voluntourism as a field that produces and is produced by an “affect economy”, or an economy based on the exchange or trade in the relational. Since the mid-1990s, life on Utila, Honduras, a popular discount backpacker scuba destination located along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, has been deeply transformed by the growth of dive tourism, the ecological destruction it has produced, and now the conservation voluntourism industry emerging in its wake. Seventy percent of Utila is comprised of mangroves and associated wetlands, home to several endangered and endemic species. Using examples of whale shark tourism, lionfish hunts, and iguana tracking, this article shows how conservation organizations operate as affect generators, enabling the privilege of engaging in multispecies encounters. Engaging in multispecies conservation voluntourism produces value in the form of cultural capital which is then exchanged for material outcomes by volunteers in the global economy; at the same time, this form of voluntourism obscures local relationships to nature and alters multispecies assemblages from past configurations.

国土资源开发与区域经济发展

国土资源的开发利用对区域经济发展有着基础性的 ,深远的影响 ,我国土地资源、矿产资源、海洋资源开发利用的区域特征已形成 ,但在空间布局、发挥区域资源比较优势、区域国土资源综合利用等方面仍存在一些问题。因此 ,应该在国土资源调查评价、规划、参与世界经济分工协作、法制建设、技术进步等主面采取相应的对策。     

“中国丹霞”福建泰宁世界自然遗产地社区居民点发展模式评价模型研究

为科学优选自然保护地社区居民点发展模式，构建客观评价模型对社区居民点发展模式进行定量评价显得尤为重要。基于“中国丹霞”福建泰宁世界自然遗产地9个社区居民点的调研数据，采用序关系分析法，以居民点人口结构、居民点景观风貌与传统文化、居民点产业发展模式，以及居民点位于遗产地的位置4个一级指标和相应二级指标为评价准则，构建该遗产地社区居民点发展模式优劣评价模型。研究表明，该遗产地9个社区居民点发展模式中，4个为疏解型，3个为搬迁型，2个为控制型，没有发展型。研究结果可为该遗产地社区居民点科学遴选发展模式提供定量评价依据，也可为生态价值高的自然保护地社区居民点发展模式的遴选提供参考。     

灰关联分析在房地产开发方案评选中的应用

项目可行性研究在房地产项目开发决策中得到了广泛的应用，但目前可行性研究主要是进行项目的经济论证，忽视了项目的技术论证，即开发方案的评价。本文首先强调了开发方案评价的重要性，分析了开发方案评价时应考虑的因素，以及这些因素对提高土地利用率、降低开发投资的影响，并拟定了相应的评价指标。通过对评价问题的分析，提出运用灰色数学理论来进行开发方案的评价，并对评价指标权重的确定进行了改进，文章的最后结合具体实例予以验证。     

海洋经济可持续开发目标保证体系的探索

21世纪，人类将运用高科技对海洋资源进一步有效地开发，但在开发利用的同时又存在对海洋资源的破坏、污染问题。应如何建立可持续开发利用海洋资源的产业目标保证体系问题进行了较深入的探究。     

湖南八大公山国家级自然保护区国家重点保护和珍稀濒危植物区系分析

从属和种的水平上分析了八大公山国家级自然保护区国家重点保护和珍稀濒危植物的区系成分特点。结果表明,该保护区共有国家重点保护和珍稀濒危植物31科44属53种。其中有国务院1999年8月4日批准公布的I级重点保护植物4科4属6种,II级重点保护植物18科23属29种;有《中国珍稀濒危保护植物名录》(1987)和《中国植物红皮书》所列的濒危植物2科2属2种,稀有植物14科15属16种,渐危植物15科19属20种。其区系具有由亚热带植物区系向温带植物区系过渡,但热带性质比较明显的特点,而且中国特有成份是该区系中非常重要的组成部分。     

The Political Economy of Rental Housing in Spain: The Dialectics of Exploitation(s) and Regulations

ABSTRACT

This paper analyses how the exploitation of tenants in Spain is boosting income for banks, hedge funds and pension funds. It does so by tracing the origins of the money invested in a Tres Cantos housing project in Madrid. The paper makes the following claims: First, the exploitation taking place in households -referred in this paper as secondary- is increasingly related to worker exploitation, and thus this particular type of exploitation is increasingly relevant to the dynamics of capital accumulation. Second, the key role of secondary exploitation of tenants in the revenue-making strategies of pension funds, hedge funds and banks is augmented and mediated by a myriad of regulations being implemented at the national and supranational scales. Theoretically, the paper contests the Marxian claim that household exploitation is ‘secondary’ to the exploitation taking place in the production process.     

基于深度开发的城市文化旅游资源开发利用——以南京为例

对南京城市文化旅游资源开发利用现状进行了系统分析后,认为应从城市整体层面上加以整合和深度开发。随后阐述了在深度开发条件下的南京旅游资源开发思路,在此基础上进行了旅游线路的空间设计与组织,以有效实现南京的旅游开发从单一的专题游向精品化、混合型旅游线路的转变,并提出了相应的实施措施。
