Testing the asymmetric effects of exchange rate pass‐through in BRICS countries: Does the state of the economy matter?

This paper investigates not only the question of whether there is exchange rate pass‐through (ERPT) but also the extent to which the pass‐through is asymmetric or state‐dependent in the BRICS countries. Using monthly data from 1999:M1 to 2019:M12 and non‐linear smooth transition vector autoregressive (STVAR) model, our results provide evidence of period‐specific ERPT between the upper and lower regime periods, governed by the selected transition variables. The results further suggest that the pass‐through of exchange rate is higher when the economy is experiencing large appreciations and expansions as well as large depreciations and recessions. Theimplication for these findings is that ERPT is strongly affected by the state of the economy.

Exchange Rate Pass‐through: The Role of Regime Changes

We consider the effect on the degree of exchange rate pass‐through of the exchange rate regime in operation. We test the hypothesis that pass‐through will be lower under a float as firms may be reluctant to pass appreciations or depreciations on to their customers when there is a strong chance that they will be subsequently reversed. Taylor’s hypothesis that pass‐through will be lower in a low‐inflation environment is also considered. Both hypotheses are assessed in relation to the price of manufactured imports into New Zealand and we find that, whereas the shift to a float dramatically lowered the degree of pass‐through, the later shift to a low‐inflation regime has no significant additional effect on the pass‐through relationship.

市场结构、汇率转嫁与出口

汇率变化是影响出口贸易的重要因素。在传统的国际贸易理论中,虽然对汇率变化影响出口贸易的机制进行了详细分析,但它没有考虑到市场结构的影响。本文从市场结构的角度出发,分析在不完全竞争的市场结构下,拥有市场势力的企业的决策怎样影响到汇率的变动和产品的出口。本文的研究结果表明,在不完全竞争的市场结构下,汇率转嫁是不完全的,因此,只有大的持久的汇率贬值或升值才会对出口贸易量产生明显的效应。

本文在广泛查阅、研究了近十年来有关征地补偿安置制度这一热点专题的大量文献的基础上，梳理、比较、分析了各界专家学者在征地补偿基本理论、合理标准、改革思路等主要问题上的研究进展和不足，旨在服务于今后的理论研究和实践工作。     

Investigating first‐stage exchange rate pass‐through: Sectoral and macro evidence from euro area countries

In this paper, we evaluate the first‐stage pass‐through, namely the responsiveness of import prices to the exchange rate changes, for a sample of euro area (EA) countries. Our study aimed to shed further light on the role of microeconomic factors versus macroeconomic factors in influencing the extent of the exchange rate pass‐through (ERPT). As a first step, we conduct a sectoral analysis using disaggregated import prices data. We find a much higher degree of pass‐through for more homogeneous goods and commodities, such as oil and raw materials, than for highly differentiated manufactured products, such as machinery and transport equipment. Our results confirm that cross‐country differences in pass‐through rates may be due to divergences in the product composition of imports. The higher share of imports from sectors with lower degrees of pass‐through, the lower ERPT for an economy will be. In a next step, we investigate for the impact of some macroeconomics factors or common events experienced by EA members on the extent of pass‐through. Using the system generalised method of moments within a dynamic panel‐data model, our estimates indicate that decline of import‐price sensitivity to the exchange rate is not significant since the introduction of the single currency. Our findings suggest instead that the weakness of the euro during the first 3 years of the monetary union significantly raised the extent of the ERPT. This outcome could explain why the sensitivity of import prices has not fallen since 1999. We also point out a significant role played by the inflation in the Eurozone, as the responsiveness of import prices to exchange rate fluctuations tends to decline in a low and more stable inflation environment. Overall, our findings support the view that the extent of pass‐through is comprised of both macro‐ and microeconomic aspects that policymakers should take into account.

基于社区参与的鄂西旅游扶贫开发模式研究——以湖北省襄樊市襄阳区为例

旅游扶贫强调社区贫困人口受益,以襄樊市襄阳区为例,提出社区参与旅游扶贫开发的模式,包括景区带动模式、农家乐接待、红色旅游、生态农业旅游、库区旅游开发、名人文化旅游、旅游名村建设等7种模式。为保障旅游扶贫的实施目的,在实践中应发挥政府主导,保障社区居民参与的主体地位;建立合理的利益分配机制;加大培训,建立高层次社区参与机制,并跟踪旅游扶贫,建立旅游扶贫的长效反馈机制等措施。
