This study is the third phase of a repeated cross-sectional study that explores the current rankings of important accounting skills to lodging managers and the changes in the importance of accounting skills to lodging managers over time. In this study, as with two prior studies, financial executives were asked to rate the importance of a list of managerial accounting skills used by hotel general managers. The top three managerial accounting skills were the operating budget, the income statement, and analysis of variances. This study can provide a better sense of the perception of importance of accounting skills utilized by lodging managers. It will be useful for hospitality educators in designing the curriculum for managerial accounting courses to meet the expectations of the current hospitality industry.  相似文献

With the traditional research-based view approach to entry mode that examines the firm's strategies from its resource endowment and deployment (i.e., an inside-out view of the firm), which is different from the earlier paradigms (i.e., an outside-in view of the firm), this article investigates intangibles at the firm level and their impact on the choice of foreign-market entry mode to understand how to create value overseas. From the multinomial logistic regression analyses with data collected from the lodging industry between 1995 and 2005, the results of this study suggest that as marketing capital increases, entry mode seems to move from acquisition to joint venture to greenfield to contractual modes. In the case of employee efficiency, as human capital increases entry mode tends to move from joint venture to acquisition to greenfield to contractual modes, whereas in the case of top managers' efficiency, entry mode tends to move from joint venture to acquisition to contractual mode to greenfield, respectively.  相似文献

Abstract

The monthly distribution of employment in hotels is, presumably, strongly related to demand for hotel services and to the derived revenue. Analysis of the monthly distributions of these indicators at tourism hotels in Israel during the years 1992-1997 revealed two types of maladjustment. First, the amplitude of the distribution for bed-nights and revenues is much higher than the counterpart distribution for employment. Second, the distributions differ in their measure of skewness. While the employment distribution is negatively skewed towards the autumn months, the distributions of the revenues and more so that of the demand for bed-nights services, are positively skewed towards the spring. Hotel management seems to be more alert to reducing the employment maladjustment during years of stagnation than years of expansion. Several hypotheses are suggested in order to explain the maladjustment. A part of it is probably associated with the allocation of overtime working hours. Another portion seems to be related to the efforts made by hotel management to retain trained workers year round in return for their consent to work for low pay.  相似文献

Abstract

This study developed and tested a progressive five-level e-Relationship marketing (e-RM) model. The authors examined e-RM web features of the top 127 hotel companies. The results indicate that the hotel companies in the study did not extensively utilize higher-level (Accountable, Proactive, and Partnership) e-RM features on their websites although they employed many lower-level (Basic and Reactive) features. The study also reveals that the extent to which a hotel company employed e-RM website features was positively associated with the size of the hotel company but negatively associated with the number of brands held by the company. This article provides an in-depth e-RM literature review and discusses practical marketing implications as well.  相似文献

Has Hyatt's success been the result of the way it has structured its organization? Research evidence has accumulated indicating that the way an organization is structured can have profound effects on its performance.Should every lodging organization adopt the same type of structure? Probably not! However, determining the appropriate organizational structure for a lodging organization requires considerable thought and analysis.The results of some of the more compelling research findings relative to the factors that affect the structuring of an organization and the relationship between organizational strategy, structure and effectiveness are examined. The purpose of this paper is to provide a critical review of extant knowledge on green lodging integration and a compilation of empirical studies that examine the greening of the lodging industry, published between 2003 and 2014. Empirical academic studies are grouped in three pillars: (a) studies that focus on corporate perspective, (b) studies that examine the role of governmental and trade organizations and (c) studies that focus on consumers’ perceptions in regard to hotels’ green integration. Accumulated knowledge is further presented in a structured way, through a Summary Table. Finally, the paper aims at setting the future research agenda in the area of green lodging by highlighting areas where results are equivocal, areas with evolving research attention and research issues that would enhance our understanding towards a greener lodging industry.  相似文献

This article examines the financial performance of lodging real estate investment trusts (REITs) in relation to their market focus. Secondary data were collected for from 2004 to 2008 from lodging REITs that were traded on major U.S. stock exchanges. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) was used to assess the efficiencies of market segments to generate financial performance. The results showed that two lodging REITs were consistently efficient during the study period relative to other lodging REITs. In particular, lodging REITs investing and/or operating in one or more relatively similar market segments and those focusing on the upper-upscale segment were more efficient than others. This study could provide managers, owners, and investors of lodging REITs preliminary evidence of the relationship between market segments and firm performance. This article also proposes a framework for future investigations to assess the performance of REITs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study serves two main purposes: (1) to assess lodging managers' perceptions of difficulties and success in balancing their personal and work lives, and (2) to investigate if lodging managers' work interferes with or is enhanced by their personal lives, or vice versa. The results indicate that most lodging managers believe that they have struck a satisfactory balance between their work and personal lives. This study identifies the respective bidirectional effects of the interaction between work and personal life. Personal life boundaries are more permeable to work demands than work boundaries are to personal life demands.  相似文献
