Social Comparisons in Ultimatum Bargaining

Experiments are used to examine the effects of social comparisons in ultimatum bargaining. We inform responders about the average offer before they decide whether to accept or reject their specific offer. This significantly increases offers and offer‐specific rejection probabilities. For comparison, we consider another change in informational conditions: telling responders the total pie is $30—ex ante it was either $15 or $30—affects offers and rejection probabilities roughly as much. Our results are consistent with people’s dislike for deviations from the norm of equity but inconsistent with fairness theories, where people dislike income disparity between themselves and their referents.     

Differential reporting in Germany - A historical analysis

Based on a contingent perspective of accounting change, this paper reviews the historical development of differential reporting in Germany, by drawing on primary and secondary sources. The main objective of the paper is to shed light on the driving forces and main influential parameters that have shaped the existing differential reporting framework. This historical approach supplies interesting insights for the current discussion on differential reporting in Germany produced by the EU Regulation on the application of International Accounting Standards.     

New Labour and Community Protests: the Case of the Govanhill Swimming Pool Campaign, Glasgow

Taking the case study of a community based protest against the closure of a swimming pool in Glasgow, this paper seeks to raise important critical questions about some of the key ideas informing New Labour's urban policy agenda: social capital and active community. It argues that normative notions of active citizenship seriously conflict with bottom-up community protests, highlighting in the process issues of power and inequality. Against claims that New Labour is promoting government through community, here we claim that in the context of this community protest, there was government against community.     

Out of the Mouths of Babes: Business Ethics and Youths in Asia

A model of corporate ethics and social responsibility (CESR) was developed and empirically tested among Chinese business undergraduates in Hong Kong and Singapore. As predicted, it was found that CESR beliefs were negatively related to Machiavellianism and two Confucian concepts, guanxi (interpersonal connections) and mianzi (face). CESR beliefs were also lower among Hong Kong than Singaporean youths. The negative effects of guanxi, mianzi, and Machiavellianism were more pronounced for the Hong Kong than Singapore sample. Implications of these findings are discussed and directions for future research suggested.

产业链概念及其形成动力因素浅析

近年来,有关产业链研究显著升温,但学术界对产业链定义及形成动因还没有形成一致认识。文章从企业追求自身长远利益最大化的角度给出产业链定义,然后分别从内因和外因分析产业链形成的动力因素。其中,内部动力因素包括“降低交易费用”、“风险规避”和“创造和利用社会资本”;外部动力因素包括“区位优势”、“技术进步”以及“政府产业政策”。

2006年关于三农的\"一号文件\"提出了建设社会主义新农村的战略构想,为了建设社会主义新农村,我们必须认清我国农村潜伏的危机,并力图提升我国农村公共危机管理的能力.关于农村公共危机,文章着重分析了我国目前农村公共危机的五种类型,最后根据张成福的\"全面整合\"模式提出了提升农村公共危机管理能力的七种途径.     

物流产业集群共生发展影响因素实证研究

文章根据物流产业集群发展的实际,以共生理论为基础,从资源集聚、分工合作、资源共享三个维度构建物流产业集群共生发展影响因素结构方程模型,进而对影响物流产业集群共生发展的关键因素以及这些因素之间的关系和强度进行实证检验。研究结果表明,物流产业集群的资源集聚能力、分工合作水平、资源共享能力对物流产业集群共生发展具有正向影响,它们对物流产业集群共生发展的影响和作用由大到小依次为:资源共享能力、分工合作水平、资源集聚能力。在物流产业集群演化发展的过程中,提高物流产业集群共生体的资源集聚程度,提高集群共生单元间的分工合作水平,增强集群共生体的资源共享能力,都将促进物流产业集群的共生发展。
