Towards a cohesive curriculum tourism: The case for a distinct discipline

This paper addresses a controversial topic in tourism scholarship which is simultaneously a problem and an opportunity in tourism education: the philosophical issue of academic disciplines and specifically, the question of a distinct discipline in tourism studies. It is argued that the orthodox approach to tourism education, multi-disciplinary studies, has become an impediment. It is suggested that a new discipline can be created by organizing the existing body of knowledge and that such a discipline can become the core of an inter-disciplinary approach. Certain characteristics of an embryonic discipline are outlined and innovations in this area at Sydney Technical College are discussed.

英语专业人才培养经历了从纯语言文学教学到结合专业方向培养复合型英语人才的过程。面对21世纪,加快培养科贸英语复合型人才具有战略意义,学校应当依托科技优势,借助商务经济学术背景,整合英语专业课程设置,拓展学生的科技贸易素质,培养学生运用英语处理国际科技贸易业务的技能。在不降低英语专业水平的前提下,培养优秀的复合型科贸英语人才。     

Design of a curriculum for destination studies

Since vocational tourism courses started at Sydney Technical College in 1973, there have been problems in teaching about tourist destinations. Historical analysis of the subject's development indicates that problems stem largely from an absence of tourism theory. Throughout this subject's development, there have been four major influences: the vocational needs of tourism students; the definition of tourism systems; the adoption of a primary orientation towards the study of the causes of tourism; and developmental work on the nature of tourist attractions. The current curriculum is described and it is suggested that due to these influences it overcomes many former problems with its integrated inter-disciplinary approach employing tourism theory as the core discipline.     

A methodological framework to address gaps in the evidence on infrastructure impacts: the case of an Indian railway project evaluation

ABSTRACT

Infrastructure is a key area of public investment and development cooperation, and can be seen as a critical enabler of trade and integration. Stakeholders increasingly demand evidence on the effectiveness of investments in infrastructure such as railways, in part because these investments typically lock in development patterns for decades. In this article we take stock of the main findings, methodological approaches, gaps and caveats of the current literature with a focus on railways. Based on this analysis, we present a methodology for an impact evaluation framework which builds on existing knowledge and addresses some of these shortcomings. Beyond the dearth of empirical evidence on the socio-economic and environmental impacts of infrastructure, we discuss critiques of the currently prevalent methodological toolbox. Using a real-world railway project in India, the Konkan Railway, we exemplify how a rigorous quantitative impact assessment can integrate inter-disciplinary and mixed-methods features to address these issues. Specifically, we apply different quasi-experimental techniques on the level of intermediate and ultimate outcome and impact indicators, using census, survey and satellite data and information from document analyses, interviews and focus group discussions. We draw on insights from economics, sociology, engineering and geography in making sense of large infrastructure projects and their impacts.     

独立医学院校公共体育课程设置研究

在调查和总结部分独立医学院校公共体育课程教学大纲的基础上,从课程目标、内容、结构等方面对医学院校的公共体育课程设置进行了分析研究,并结合复合型医学人才培养的目标,提出了一些改革的建议,旨在为进一步深化医学院校体育课程改革提供参考。     

基于协同理论的复合型高技能电子商务人才培养模式创新与实践

论多元智能理论在综合英语教学中的运用

综合英语课作为高等学校英语专业的基础课,历来备受重视。但受传统教学理念的影响,综合英语教学主要以培养学生基本语言技能为目标,忽略了学生除语言智能之外的其他智能的开发,延缓了培养复合型人才的进度。多元智能型英语教学是将MI理论应用于英语教学实践的一种新模式,旨在通过多元英语教学形式将英语认知目标和智能发展目标有机融合。以多元智能理论为基础,以综合英语教材中的一篇文章为例来设计课堂教学活动,探讨将多元智能理论运用于综合英语教学的新模式,从而提高教学效果。     

高职旅游英语专业课程“1＋1”教学模式新尝试

随着我国旅游业的蓬勃发展，新时期的旅游人才不仅需要良好的专业知识，还要具备较高的英语应用能力。在对现行的高职旅游英语专业课程教学模式进行分析总结的基础上，本文提出了或许可在告知旅游英语专业课程中进行“1＋1”课程教学模式的新尝试。     

复合型外语人才培养研究中几个基本问题的思考

外语专业本身具有复合性,这一特点决定了外语人才培养模式是“外语＋X”。该模式是单一型外语人才培养模式,外语与文学、语言学相结合培养的是传统外语人才,外语与外交、经贸、新闻等学科相结合培养的是应用型外语人才,这两类外语人才相比是“各有所长”。复合型外语人才是单一型外语人才的对立面,是在传统外语人才的基础上辅以其它学科专业知识。与单一型外语人才相比,复合型外语人才是“另有所长”。本科教育阶段复合型外语人才的培养不应主要由外语院系独自承担,而应主要通过双学位等方式进行。
