With rising environmental concerns from consumers and stakeholder groups, environmental management has become an important responsibility for today's fashion and textiles manufacturers. The production of fashion and textiles related products often requires high levels of energy and water consumption, and emits large quantities of pollutants to the environment. Therefore, the adoption of environmental management systems (EMSs) is important and could have a significant impact on these firms' operational performance. This study presents empirical evidence on the performance impact of EMS adoption in the fashion and textiles related industries (FTIs). Although EMSs have emerged as a passport to business in the FTIs, their actual impacts on firms' financial performance have not been explored. We reveal that the adoption of ISO 14000, the most popular EMS, improves manufacturers' profitability in the FTIs over a three-year period as measured by return-on-assets (ROA). Based on our sample, we find that profitability improvement started during the implementation stage and continued at least one year after the firm obtained ISO 14000 certification. We also find that profitability improvement is mainly due to improvement in cost efficiency, measured by return-on-sales (ROS). Specifically, certified firms improved up to 2.9% in ROA and 3.3% in ROS over the three-year period since they implemented ISO 14000. We conclude that there is a positive impact of EMS adoption on firms' financial performance in the FTIs. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore the textiles and apparel curriculum in Mongolian higher education. Data were collected from 12 individual interviews conducted with seven professors and five industry professionals in a city in Mongolia. Results indicated that four areas of the discipline were lacking in the curriculum: (i) fashion marketing and business, (ii) knitwear design and product development, (iii) professional development, and (iv) entrepreneurship. Industry professionals strongly emphasized the importance of soft skills. The authors have suggested additional courses to the curriculum in Mongolia based on the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) meta‐goals. 相似文献

Textile and apparel industry professionals must be capable of dealing with cultural differences and diverse perspectives on a multinational scale. To address the challenges involved in educating students for the global industry workforce, a 3‐year collaborative project was conducted through partnerships between faculty at three U.S. universities and five universities in Thailand, Australia, and Russia. The project was designed to create learning modules based on real‐world industry issues to foster global competence among students in textile and apparel programs. Tested in existing courses, module effectiveness was assessed using pre‐ and post‐tests that included closed‐ and open‐ended questions designed to measure students’“cultural intelligence” as an indication of global competence. Results suggest that exposure to the modules helped to improve students’ global competence. However, further development and testing of the modules is needed to include students in programs and countries in addition to those represented by this study. 相似文献

纺织品服装是中国具有比较优势的大宗出口商品,在中国对外贸易中有重要的地位。文章运用最小二乘估计法,就人民币实际有效汇率对中国纺织品服装进出口贸易的影响进行了实证分析。结果表明,人民币实际有效汇率变动对中国纺织品服装进出口有显著影响,且其对进口的影响明显大于对出口的影响。另外,收入水平也是影响中国纺织品服装进出口的主要因素。 相似文献
