“民主化”改革与地区经济表现

依据Polity IV数据库数据,考量20世纪90年代以来“第三波民主化浪潮”中,发展中国家朝着西方价值标准“民主”的重大转变对其经济表现的影响。结果显示,没有证据支持“民主化”改革促进了经济增长;相反,“民主化”改革引致国家治理能力下降,阻碍了经济发展。异质性分析表明,“民主化”改革对经济发展的负效应主要出现在撒哈拉以南非洲地区,且激进的“民主化”改革和被殖民国家的“民主化”改革对经济发展的负面影响更大。鉴于此,西方价值标准的民主既非一国经济发展的充分条件,也非一国经济发展的必要条件,一国选择何种国家治理模式与政治体制应考虑自身的历史、文化、发展阶段等实际国情,而不是盲目推行西式“民主化”。     

嘉兴农村社会阶层分化对基层民主政治建设的影响

改革开放以来，嘉兴农村社会阶层发生很大的变化，出现了许多新的阶层。这对促进农村政治民主化的发展、完善目前正在实施的村民自治制度具有重要的作用。但应当看到目前嘉兴农村基层民主建设尚存在一些问题，这些问题的存在与农村阶层分化不到位，以及群体性和组织性不强有着直接的关系。正确认识农村社会结构变化的规律，不断增强它的群体性和组织程度，对促进农村政治发展的民主化具有重要意义。     

The Primacy of Space in Politics: Bargaining Rights,Freedom and Power in an İstanbul Neighborhood

This article explores and theorizes the ways in which urban space and political contestations are mapped onto each other. The ethnography illustrates the multifaceted transformations in a notoriously secularist neighborhood of ?stanbul, Te?vikiye, as it first turns into a high‐consumption locality in the post‐1980s, then into a high‐conflict urban space in the new millennium on the arrival of Muslim high‐spenders, particularly headscarved women. Aiming to fill the gap left by the absence of spatial analysis from political science and political sociology, I argue that the urban neighborhood becomes central for political contestation when both government and opposition fail to protect and secure liberties and rights. Now that devout Muslims are integrated into highly contested urban sites and share bourgeois lifestyles, ordinary people act in defense of their ‘sphere’ of freedom and privacy. This new territoriality is largely symptomatic of increasing fears of losing freedom, privacy and social status. This spatial defensiveness is reinforced by people's decreasing trust in, and increasing demands from, the state for the protection and security of their rights and liberties. My overarching argument is that exclusive attention to the bipolar clash between devout Muslims and secularists under the rubric of ‘neighborhood wars’ obscures multipolar conflicts around the discontents stemming from authoritarianism and democratization.     

Are Environmental Social Movements Socially Exclusive? An Historical Study from Thailand

Environmental social movements in developing countries are often portrayed as democratizing but may contain important social divisions. This paper presents a new methodology to analyze the social composition and underlying political messages of movements. Nearly 5 000 newspaper reports during 1968–2000 in Thailand are analyzed to indicate the participation of middle and lower classes, and their association with “green” (conservationist) and “red-green” (livelihoods-oriented) environmental values. Results show middle-class “green” activism has dominated forests activism, but lower-class “red-green” activism has grown for forests and pollution. Newspapers, however, portray all environmentalism as “democratization,” suggesting that the possible exclusiveness of some environmental norms is unacknowledged.     

Non‐linear geographics and the economics of transition and democratization1

The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of geography on the transition process in authoritarian political regimes, and to investigate the nature of the links between political change, economic reforms and geographical location. A simple model of transition and democratization is presented wherein we show that the effectiveness of repression by the incumbent elite is a negative function of the distance to the ‘free world’. In consequence, geography has conflicting effects on shifts in political power. This article provides a rationale for the counterintuitive fact that the first authoritarian country to start a transition process towards democratization is not necessarily the one nearest to the free world.     

关于构建和谐社会的分析与建议

综合考察影响社会和谐的诸多因素，从根本上讲，关键是政治体制改革与经济体制改革不同步。经济市场化缺乏政治民主化的保障。基于这种分析，我们必须以致治民主化为突破口，结合中国的国情提出综合解决方案。与此同时，我们认为。对一些在市场化过程中出现的突出问题，政府也有必要采取行政措施。这样做不仅可以减少阵痛、降低成本，还可以争取时闻。     

Democratization and the depoliticization of the banking sector: Are all banks affected equally?

This paper shows that the influence of the dramatic change in political ties of the Indonesian banking sector following democratization varies widely by bank ownership type. Panel estimates using several unique data-sets show that the decrease in political ties over democratization positively influences the performance of government-owned banks while negatively influencing the performance for privately held banks. Results remain robust to a variety of alternative hypotheses and sensitivity tests. This study provides evidence not only of the differential impact of depoliticization, but also suggests that the relationship between political connections and performance may be different based on bank ownership.     

公民立法提案制度的必要性探析

立法提案是立法程序的入口,也是体现立法民主化的重要环节。本应体现广泛民意的立法提案,实践中受到体制内外的严重纷扰,于是有学者主张赋予公民立法提案主体地位。显然,在人民代表大会政体之下,这种主张并不可行。但不可否认,立法民主化是大势所趋,应切合实际地设计相关制度,保障立法提案的顺畅,使民意之所需成为立法之所急。
