An E-Valuation Framework for Developing Net-Enabled Business Metrics Through Functionality Interaction

Managers engaged in net-enabled business planning seek metrics to help them analyze the success of their e-business investments. Likewise, researchers require metrics to build analytical models and conduct empirical research on the impact of e-business strategies on firm performance. In this article, the authors develop a comprehensive E-Valuation Framework for identifying net-enabled applications and their resulting user-based functionalities for activities across the value chain. The authors propose that the real value from net-enabled applications can be found in functionality interactions, where one application enables or enhances functionality in another application. The comprehensive framework can be used to generate three types of metrics managers can use to evaluate their net-enabled strategic initiatives. Further, a classification of net-enabled organizations provides the basis for selecting applications critical to a firm's strategic thrusts. We make use of the resource-based view of the firm and real-options analysis to discuss how successful application deployment is based on the resources and assets the firm possesses as well as managing the rollout of an applications portfolio over time. The framework allows managers to map their organization's net-enabled initiatives into a coherent, easily understood visual representation and provides direction for researchers evaluating the efficacy of net-enabled business strategies.

A Modified Model for Hotel Website Functionality Evaluation

Harnessing a mathematical computation approach to analyze data solicited from 354 website stakeholders (including 200 hotel customers, 83 hotel managers, and 71 hotel website designers), this study presents an up-to-date and robust evaluation model for assessing the functionality of hotel websites. The modified model was also empirically used to assess the functionality performance of the websites of all the hotels in Hong Kong. Results from the non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests revealed a difference in performance, with higher star rating hotels performing better than those with a lower star rating. As one of the first attempts to incorporate the perceptions of multiple website stakeholders into hotel website evaluation, this study provides hoteliers with practical advice on website development.

Influence of design on tourists’ recommendation intention: an exploratory study of fjord cruise boats

ABSTRACT

In this article we study the influences of esthetic, functional, and symbolic dimensions of design on attitude toward fjord cruise boats and intention to recommend using the product. Also, we argue for the importance of a product to blend in with the surroundings in which it is used – contextually congruent design. In two studies we find that aesthetic, functional and contextually congruent design has positive influences on attitude toward fjord cruise boats. Designers of fjord cruise boats should develop boats with designs that are congruent with the surroundings in which they will be used.     

浅析中国古代食具碗造型的发展规律

“碗”是中国古代最主要的饮食器具,其器型称谓经历了多次变化。从材质上讲,它经历了陶器、瓷器、漆器和银器等几个演化阶段;从功能和形式上讲,碗的口径和高度大小均满足东方人对碗的使用要求。这说明中国古代的碗,在前期其功能变化不大,形制也较为单一。随着人们对自己和器物关系的规律性认识的不断深化,器物的型制也从单一走向多样,并逐渐形成了后期比较明确的功能性造型取向,这对现代设计有着启示借鉴作用。     

张家口市土地利用多功能性动态变化及影响因素

[目的]研究土地利用多功能性可为区域土地资源可持续利用提供科学依据。[方法]文章以张家口市为例,运用综合指数模型和灰色关联分析法分析1985—2014年张家口市土地利用多功能性动态变化及其影响因素。[结果](1)1985—2014年土地利用多功能性总体上处于较低水平和较高水平,土地利用总功能变化具有明显的阶段性,1985—2000年土地利用总功能在波动中减弱,土地利用功能以生态功能为主导;2000—2014年土地利用总功能在波动中增强,土地利用主导功能由生态功能向经济、社会功能转变。(2)土地利用社会功能缓慢增强,经济功能在波动中增强,生态功能显著减弱并处于明显的波动状态。(3)空间承载、就业支撑、生态维持功能不断增强,社会保障、农业生产、牧业生产、经济发展功能在波动中增强,交通服务功能先缓慢提升后快速提升,资源供给功能逐渐减弱,环境净化功能显著减弱并处于明显的波动状态。(4)土地利用多功能性变化的关键影响因子由自然条件、社会经济因素向环境、政策因素扩展。[结论]基于可持续发展三维度理念构建的指标体系适用于张家口市土地利用多功能性评价,灰色关联模型能够较好地识别土地利用多功能性动态变化的关键影响因子。     

The Evaluation of Hotel Website Functionality by Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process

Although previous studies have identified different factors on hotel website functionality evaluation, the evaluation of the relative importance of these factors has not been empirically determined. This study adopted a sophisticated approach that analyzes the weights of hotel website functionality. This approach involved triangular fuzzy numbers and an analytic hierarchy process to develop a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model which prioritizes the relative importance of hotel website functionality criteria. First, 20 criteria for hotel website functionality evaluation were developed from a literature review and three focus group interviews. After that, a fuzzy AHP approach was used to examine the relative importance of the criteria and sub-criteria of hotel website functionality evaluation. As human judgments are often uncertain and vague, the use of fuzzy set theory, rather than exact numbers, enables us to capture decision-makers' uncertainty. Finally, the results indicated that “Reservation Information” is the most important criterion to hotel website functionality.
