New technologies enable practitioners to communicate scents in advertisements on various media. The current research examines the importance of matching scent cues to the advertised product, and the joint effect of scent and other cues such as colour on consumer responses to advertising. A 4 × 2 experimental design was conducted, where participants (N = 603) were presented with scented colour print advertisements. Three hierarchical responses were measured: emotional response, attitude, and purchase intention. Findings reveal that higher congruence between scent and the advertised product heightens positive consumer response. Furthermore, this research stresses the significant joint effect of scent and colour cues, and supports the incongruence approach, suggesting that combining scents that are poorly congruent with other sensory cues enhance consumer response. Water-level change is integral to the structure and function of Great Lakes coastal wetlands, and many studies document predictable relationships between vegetation and water level. However, anthropogenic stressors, such as invasive species, land-use change, and water-level stabilization, interact to shift the historical cycle (of native vegetation migration up- and down-slope) toward dominance by invasive Typha species. Knowing from earlier studies that water-level stabilization alters the historical vegetation cycle, we asked if similar shifts can occur where water levels are not stabilized. Using historical aerial photographs of three coastal wetlands (in Lake Michigan's Green Bay, Wisconsin), we determined that habitat dominated by Typha species has expanded to eliminate wet meadow habitat. Between 1974 and 1992, linear regressions showed strong, significant relationships of both meadow area (R2 ≥ 0.894; p < 0.02) and marsh area (R2 ≥ 0.784; p < 0.05) to water level in all three wetlands. In 2000, meadow area was below that predicted by the historical pattern due to the landward advance of marsh habitat during a year of decreasing water levels. In the same period, land use in the wetland watersheds converted from agriculture to urban. Urbanization and the replacement of native Typha latifolia by the invasive hybrid Typha xglauca may have overwhelmed the beneficial impact of water-level fluctuation. Land use change is strongly modifying the traditional landscape of hilly productive Mediterranean sites. An example of these circumstances is the Langhe region (Piemonte, NW Italy), where woody plantations such as vineyards and orchards have been cultivated on hillslopes for centuries. In this paper we assess landscape changes occurred in the Diano study area (2651 ha) in the 1954–2000 period and we ascertain land use transition paths and rates of this rural ecosystem. Land use mapping obtained from object-oriented analysis of aerial photographs was used to quantify land use changes between 1954 and 2000. To examine the spatio-temporal patterns of land use change over time, a set of spatial statistics capturing different dimensions of landscape change was identified. An increase of landscape heterogeneity from 1954 to the present was observed due to the expansion of orchards and the fragmentation of field crops. A significant portion (55%) of current orchards surface is represented by former field crops, 24% by vineyards and 15% by forests. The strong expansion of hazelnut orchards concurred to the fragmentation of traditional rural landscape was dominated by vineyards, field crops and forests. Hazelnut orchards expansion was mainly located in places where grapes cultivation was less remunerative. A further expansion of hazelnut in the area should be planned, discussed and carefully monitored through change detection studies in order to avoid potential unsustainable use of the land. 相似文献

The aim of our research is to find out how pastries should be visually merchandised in retail environments most effectively. In particular, we want to answer the question whether the colour of the surface (black vs. white) against which pastries are presented influences consumers’ expectations (sensory and hedonic), i.e., before tasting (stage 1) and perceptions (sensory and hedonic), i.e., after tasting (stage 2). In addition, we seek to detect any differences in sensory and hedonic evaluations as well as purchase intentions between stage 1 and stage 2.For this purpose, we conducted two studies on a special type of pastries, i.e., macarons: first, based on our observational research, we selected the most popular macaron flavours (colours): pistachio (green), raspberry (pink), coffee (light brown), chocolate (dark brown), lemon (yellow), and vanilla (off-white); second, we carried out a between-participants experiment among 432 participants.Our results reveal that customers seem to show a high degree of identification of the actual flavour in stage 1, with some doubts related to the colours light brown, yellow, and dark brown. Moreover, the assessment of the sensory attributes of crunchiness, creaminess, and sweetness, as well as the hedonic value and purchase intent appear to be higher in stage 2 than in stage 1. Furthermore, no main effects of the plate colour on the evaluations of greasiness, crunchiness, creaminess, and sweetness, as well as the hedonic value and purchase intent in stage 1 and stage 2 could be found. However, while the expectation of greasiness for the macaron colours green, pink, light brown, lemon, and off-white is higher when served on a black plate, for the colour dark brown, the expectation of greasiness is higher when served on a white plate. Finally, managerial implications for retailers, like, bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, or caterers, are provided, the limitations of our research are mentioned, and avenues for further research are given. 相似文献

This paper reconceptualises the tourist gaze as facilitated by smart phones and social media, with a focus on selfies. It presents selfie-taking as a new way of touristic looking in which tourists become the objects of the self-directed tourist gaze. The paper suggests that the practice of selfie-taking in tourism is constituted by othering, stylized performing and producing/consuming visual culture of the self. Through these processes, tourists are able to ascribe the characteristics they otherwise associate with tourist sights onto themselves. Rather than fetishizing the extraordinary at the tourist destination, tourists seek to capture the extraordinary within themselves.
