Abstract: | In this article, Dr. Meinkoth discusses the desirability of requiring a uniform textbook for the Principles course. She reports on an experiment in which five faculty members used the same textbook in the first semester but adopted books of their own choice in the second semester. The Test of Understanding in College Economics (TUCE) was then administered to the students, along with a questionnaire to determine their attitudes toward the books and towards economics. The results raise serious questions about the standard practice of requiring uniform textbooks. |
