世界上没有无裂缝的水坝

三峡工程举世瞩目。去年底,三峡大坝泄洪坝段发现了裂缝,一度被炒得沸沸扬扬,以致不明真象的人们误以为,三峡工程出了大事故。为澄清事实,本刊记者采访了两院院士、国务院三峡建委会三峡工程质量检查专家组成员潘家铮。以下是潘院士的讲话纪要,标题是编者所加。

Challenging cracks

The Three Gorges project has been attracting worldwide attention. Since cracks occurred in the concrete of the spillway section of the dam at the end of the year 2001, some of people who don't understand the Project have mi-sunderstoo that a major accident has happened with the Project. In fact, the quality of the Project as a whole is good or very good, compared to the dams built at home and abroad. The cracks on the upstream surface of the spillway section are in nature surficial and in shallow layer. The major cause for the cracks in the concrete of the Project shall be the temperature effect. The fresh concrete shall be regarded as a baby and shall be taken care of carefully. The CTGPC has taken more strict inspection means and remedial measures. Upon completion of the remedial measures the cracks shall have no impact on the safety of the Project.
