论英汉互译中绝对的可译性与相对的不可译性

可译与不可译性是翻译领域中一个长期争论不休的理论问题。作为一对二律背反命题,这对矛盾根源于导致翻译矛盾与困难的民族语言文化差异。本文由翻译、可译性及不可译性的定义入手,从语言功能和文化的角度通过英汉互译的具体例证探讨可译性和不可译性的理论依据,并且阐述了将不可译性向可译性转化的可能性及其策略技巧,旨在说明翻译是可能的,即可译性是绝对的,不可译性是相对的。

The Absolute Translatability and the Relative Untranslatability in Translation Practice between Chinese and English

The problem of translatability and untranslatability is always a disputed issue in translation field.As the opposites,the contradiction between translatability and untranslatability is rooted in the national linguistic and cultural disparities which lead to the difficulty of translation.This paper starts from the definition of translation,translatability and untranslatability,and then discusses the theoretical basis of translatability and untranslatability from linguistic and cultural perspectives through a few examples of Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation practice.The author also deals with the possibility of the transformation from untranslatability to translatability and some strategies for transforming the untranslatable to the translatable,aiming at showing that translatability is Absolute while untranslatability is relative.
