To Construct Yantai Zhichu Science and Technology Park as Run by the Local People

Yantai Zhichu Science and Tech nology Park was set up by Zhichu Group of Shandong Province. In 1995 it became a state-level science and technology park as approved by State Commission of Science and Technology. In 1998 it became one of the "one zone and three parks" of APEC industrial zones in Yantai as approved by the State Council. It is located at the juncture of Zhifu District, the Economic and Technological Development Zone and Fushan District of Yantai. In the process of construction, great importance has always been attached to priority input and high technology in order to survive and develop. Now there are 18 enterprises and institutions of science and technology run by the local people. Among them., there are five at provincial level with an asset of RMB 830 million yuan and 3000 staff members. 600 of them are professionals. Some industries have taken shape, such as wire and cable, optical fiber, internal decoration materials for motors, biological medicines, wear-resisting nonferrous metals, mechanical manufacturing and building materials. A backbone framework of three high-tech industries has been established. They are optical telecommunication, bioengi-neering and new materials. In 1998 the total income of the park was RMB948 million yuan, among which the output of high-tech enterprises account for 80%. The area turned in tax of RMB96.98million yuan, the greatest for six years running among the enterprises run by local people in Yantai. Seventy percent of the total economic growth is attributed to scientific and technological progress.
