Abstract: | The capitalist approach is in the ascendant around the world, but paradoxically it brings many serious social problems. Habermas's theory of lifeworld and system can be used to analyse this paradox. Using communication theory a model can also be devised which throws new light on the reasons for capitalism's success. The model predicts that small, compartmented organizations with excellent internal communications will be increasingly competitive. Their growth should in turn reduce the social ills which arise from capitalism's ‘colonization of the lifeworld’. |
