The Evolution in Characteristic and Theoretical Basis of New Protectionism

The New Protectionism is especially defined to the various theories and policies in the western countries after the Second World War. Since 1990s, there has been some evolution in New Protectionism's original characteristic, which is that it has been increasingly pursuing the legal protection under current multilateral trade system, re-stressing in import oriented protection, transferring from obvious means to the veiled ones, from pure trade policies to some economic and competitive ones. The evolution is backed by theories. And it is of substantial significance to study the evolution and the theoretical basis involved.
