Tourism Criminology: Its Definition, Fields, Methods and Implication

This paper studies the basic aspects of tourism criminology. Tourism criminology focuses on tourism crimes by analyzing its causation, characteristics, prevention and recovery in order to look for the ways to prevent and monitor tourism crimes. Tourism crime might be defined as the summing up of all kinds of crimes that take place during travelling, including tourist crime, tourist-oriented crime, and tourism-environment-oriented crime. Tourism crimes possess fluidity, regionality, seasonality, and magnification in impacts and prolongation in time. Tourism criminology should place the emphasis on the classification, dynamics and prevention of tourism crimes,which might take such ways as multi-knowledge analysis, case analysis, temporal-spatial comparison. Studying tourism criminology can contribute to developing and perfecting tourism science and tourism regulation, and promoting the sustainable development of tourism destination and tourism industry.
