城市作为社会发展的重要空间载体，其发展模式演进对经济社会进步具有重要意义。自党的十七大报告提出“建设生态文明”以来，生态文明已上升为国家战略。在生态文明战略背景下，城市发展逐步从经营城市转变到生态城市，并趋向和谐城市。生态城市、和谐城市是生态文明战略的重要组成部分，如何发展生态城市、和谐城市是实践生态文明、建设和谐社会的重要内容。文章围绕生态文明理念，从空间优化的角度分析了典型生态城市的发展模式，并对其发展趋势——和谐城市进行思考，由此提出对城市发展具有借鉴意义的对策建议。
