Disarming the Interest Groups
Authors:Samuel Brittan
Institution:Samuel Brittan is Assistant Editor of The Financial Times, and its principal economic commentator since 1966. He was recently appointed to the Peacock Committee on the funding of the BBC. In July he received an Hon. D. Litt from the Heriot-Watt University. He is author of numerous books on economics.
Abstract:Vested interests continue to present the Government with political obstacles to economic reform. Samuel Brittan suggests that a Grand Trade-Off is the only means by which liberalisation can be forced through. Three British commentators react to his proposition. The Editorial on pp.2 and 3 proposes a complementary policy.
