Through a series of behavioural, psychological analysis and depiction derived from Koeves＇amour-propre, Kertesz has shown us that although Koeves lived miserably in a concentration camp and endured considerable humiliation, he still stood on his dignity. He had always been trying to resist against the deprivation of human dignity by ＇barbaric arbitrariness＇, whether consciously or unconsciously through the use of overt and obscure means.
