With the Lucas Critique, macroeconomics has considerably refocused on the business cycle theory over the last twenty years. Finn Kydland and Edward Prcscott have led the way into what is now called Real Business Cycle Theory (RBC) with several studies featuring representative agents subject to technology innovations. And RBC holds that technology shocks are a major source of business fluctuations. In the last decade these concepts and methods have diffused into macroeconomics.
