Abstract:The industrialized world, as represented by the members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), occupies the dominant position in world travel with 90% of the tourist supply and 80%–90% of tourist arrivals. This massive market share is not thought to be under threat from an increase in Third World tourism. OECD gross domestic product is expected to continue rising at 3% or more indicating continuing travel expansion. Demand is increasing and diversifying so there is substantial scope for the industry and governments to cooperate in the development of the tourism product and infrastructure to expand into a larger, more varied market.
