The properties of a distance-based segregation index

The relationship between Jakub's recently introduced Distance-based Segregation Index and the Index of Dissimilarity is algebraically specified. The reasons why the distance-based index is substantially less dependent on the size of sub-areas are detailed, and the importance of this property is discussed. Some difficulties which the investigator is likely to encounter with the standardisation procedure are described.
