THE CHANGING PATTERN OF BRITISH MEAT PRODUCTION *
Authors:G HARRINGTON
Abstract:Home economists play a key role in the communications business, helping the housewives and consumers of today and tomorrow to get the best out of meat, the central item in our diet. This involves both sensible choice at the shop counter or display, and clever utilization in the kitchen. This paper provides an opportunity for those concerned with helping the British meat industry to meet the changing needs of consumers, to provide home economists with the latest information on how this huge, increasingly technology-based, industry is adapting to changing circumstances. This paper describes how meat is produced in Britain in the late 1970s and highlights some of the more important changes that have happened in production patterns in recent history.
